Check out the new single from Wu-Tang member U-God’ upcoming album ‘Venom’. The DJ Homicide & 1200 Warriors-produced lead single from the album is a bass-heavy banger that showcases U-God’s versatile flow as he weaves between a laidback delivery and double-time rhymes.

Babygrande Records is proud to announce the new album ‘Venom’, from U-God of the seminal hip-hop supergroup the Wu-Tang Clan. ‘Venom’ will be released in early 2017.

The Brownsville, Brooklyn native U-God moved to Staten Island as a youth. Growing up on the Island in Park Hill not far from his cousin Method Man, Inspectah Deck and Raekwon were his childhood friends. He later became good friends with Cappadonna, then RZA and Ghostface, and he began rhyming under the alias Golden Arms, based on the Kung-Fu movie The Kid with The Golden Arms. Later on, his incarceration prevented him from featuring heavily on the group’s debut album ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’, although he helped finance some of the Clan’s early recording sessions, his input on the seminal LP consisting of only a short bridge on the group’s debut single “Protect Ya Neck” as well as the now famous opening verse of “Da Mystery of Chessboxin'”. Nevertheless, he quickly became known to fans for his rugged flow and bass-like voice on future Wu tracks “Winter Warz”, “Knuckleheadz”, “Investigative Reports”, and “Black Jesus”.

U-God stayed off the streets and avoided incarceration for the group’s 4x platinum sophomore album ‘Wu-Tang Forever’. U-God was featured on 10 tracks, two of which were the hit singles “It’s Yourz” and “Triumph.” Around this time, his young son was accidentally shot and injured, an ordeal the rapper documented on the Wu-Tang Clan track “A Better Tomorrow.” On the Clan’s third effort, ‘The W’, U-God was featured on hit single “Gravel Pit.” The track would become a worldwide hit and the highest charting Wu-Tang song in the group’s twenty year history.

U-God’s solo career got off to a late start, becoming the eighth member of the group to record a solo album, releasing ‘Golden Arms Redemption’ in 1999 on Priority Records, which displayed a wide variety of sounds from gritty Blaxploitation funk to urgent string sections, and featured guest appearances from several Wu-Tang members and affiliates. The song “Rumble” was used as the main song for the video game “Wu Tang : Shaolin Style.” “Bizarre,” a single from the album, debuted #7 on the Billboard Hot Rap Singles, propelling the album to Gold status, in spite of Priority Records being on the verge of shutting down. It would be a long time since we heard from him as a solo artist but he remained very active recording verses on over 200 songs like SWV hit remix for “Anything” from the “Above The Rim” soundtrack, the verse and hook on Ghostface’s hit single “Cherchez Le Ghost” and recently featured on the track “Rivers Of Blood” from RZA’s Man with the Iron Fists movie soundtrack which was featured on Nike commercial with soccer superstar Neymar Jr.

In 2009 U-God released the album ‘Dopium’, his first album with Babygrande, the lead single “Wu-Tang” featured Method Man was an underground smash. The album featured guest appearances by Sheek Louch, Jim Jones, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, GZA, Cappadonna, Method Man, Killah Priest and Scotty Wotty with production by Bloody Beetroots, Felix Cartel and Large Professor. In 2014, U-God released the acclaimed album ‘The Keynote Speaker’. The album featured artists including Styles P, Elzhi, and Kool Keith as well as Clan members GZA, Method Man, and Inspectah Deck.

U-God’s fifth studio album, ‘Venom’, is slated to hit stores in early 2017 via Babygrande Records.

For our American homies U-God will also be performing alongside the entire Wu-Tang Clan on New Year’s Eve (December 31st) for Wu Year’s Eve at The AXIS at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.  The show starts at 9pm. Stutter Jack – ‘Splogged Reality’ EP #AUDIO #DL @StutterJack

Posted in: Audio, Downloads. Leave a comment

sploggedreality

The alter ego of Edinburgh based rapper Conscious Route is the obnoxious incarnation of Stutter Jack style of blending new and old boom-bap with Electro-style beats. This talisman of disassociated mind-craft unveils the grim depths with his personal warped lyrics of the darkest disclosure from his suppressed cerebral. His elaborate hip hop nihilism combines with tort and regressed convalescence both in outlook and lyrical style. The man society wouldn’t accept has finally found his mouthpiece works, with a staggered speech impediment bringing twisted revelation to the underground of UK Hip Hop & world-wide.

The dope six track EP features production from Sean El & Kid Robotik. Steam and download ‘Splogged Reality’ here

Benny Diction & Blue Buttonz – ‘Button Up’ LP and Video Out NOW @BennyDiction_UK @SteadyRockBBP

Posted by hiphoplifeandtimes on December 16, 2016
Posted in: Album Releases, Audio, Downloads, Music Videos, News. Leave a comment

buttonup

‘Button Up’ is the new album from UK rapper Benny Diction and is entirely produced by South Africa’s Blue Buttonz who brings soulful, subtle production to the album which also features Scratches by DJ Sugai (Tracks 3,10,11 & 12) & DJ Rasp (Track 5) . ‘Button Up’ is released via the ever consistent independent UK label Boom Bap Professionals.

Benny explains about the album “The project came about after I dropped a verse on one of Blue’s beats for a song with mutual collaborator Gadget. In late 2013, Blue then remixed ‘Eventually’, from my ‘Life Moves’ album, and proceeded to send me between 30 and 40 beats to get busy with. I whittled these down to a select few and then what was initially going to be an EP grew into an album.”

“The title, ‘Button Up’, is symbolic of  entering my thirties, accepting the responsibilities that this entails and coming to terms with the inevitable change of pace. Accordingly, I’ve (mostly) eschewed the tongue-in-cheek/braggadocio humour that many might know me for in favour of  a more serious and sincere, yet optimistic, tone.”

“The guest vocalists include the likes of eMCee Killa, Granville Sessions and Elliot Fresh, who all bring their own unique style and perspective to the album and I also reached out to some dope DJs and musicians to bless some of the tracks. The subject matter ranges from storytelling (‘Growing Pains’) to political commentary (‘Back to Pangaea’) to straight spitting (‘Get Involved’)”

Snowgoons ft @dalocksmith @SKREWTAPE84 @RiteHookFTW – ‘Problems’ #VIDEO @Snowgoons @GoonMuSick

Snowgoons featuring Locksmith, Skrewtape & Rite Hook – “Problems”. The track is lifted off the highly anticipated album ‘Goon Bap’ out 12.12.16, even though the feature list reads like a Who’s Who of legendary MCs from the 90s boom bap era, with tracks like “Problems” the Snowgoons also easily manage to place a whole bunch of extremely gifted young guns on the album.

Team Backpack`s Locksmith, Philly newcomer Skrewtape and singer/rapper Rite Hook from Boston are telling a story of their every day struggle but at the same time will uplift you to stay positive and look forward in life. The video was shot in Boston, New York and Philadelphia by DJ Illegal of the Snowgoons.
