Last week The Scribes played at Trinity in Bristol with The Herbaliser. They were kind enough to drop a few cheeky bars for us literally minutes before the show was about to start. These dudes are not only super talented, and musically, a really interesting
group, but also some of the nicest people we’ve met within hip-hop (it made us love this scene just that little bit more). I strongly suggest you go check them out once you’ve watched this video, but if you need help being convinced you can read a short review of their new record that we posted last week.
For more exclusives you can subscribe to our Youtube page to watch the other videos.
For those of you living in the old LDN, The Ruby Kid is hosting a regular spoken word/hip-hop/generally good music night, featuring some really interesting artists in around the hip-hop and spoken word scene. It’s not strictly hippity hoppity, which in my eyes is a good thing because I don’t know about you, but I eat all genres for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. I can’t get enough of music, fill my musical belly up please…If you didn’t enjoy that weird little metaphor then you’ll be glad to know there’ll be people at ‘Out-Spoken’ doing a better job of creating imagery and narrative with their words. So get yourself on down and check it out for yourselves.

“On November 20th, Wu-Tang Clan affiliate/Guinness World Record Freestylist M-Eighty will drop the highly anticipated album “Home Grown Internationally Known”. The LP pays tribute to the rappers hometown of Toledo, OH by featuring all Toledo-based Emcees and Producers alongside the pairing of M-Eighty & newcomer and fellow Toledo native Nino Graye. The duo known as “Glass City”, will be embarking on a 15-date Midwest tour in November alongside the likes of Kid Ink, Cappadonna, & Bronze Nazareth in support of their debut. Fans can expect several videos spawning from the LP’s release including featured tracks “Hip-Hop Glory”, “911”, “Burn it Up”, “Lose My Sheeeit!” & the collegiate-anthem “FAH-Q”.
When asked how the duo came up with the name for their group and the title for their debut, M-Eighty remarked by stating, “I am a home grown product of Toledo, OH who never stopped loving my roots and 30-years later I am that internationally recognized Artist/A&R/Executive that people notice and I still keep it 1000% with my peers. “Glass City” is a nickname for Toledo, OH aka The Renaissance City and though the group is just Nino and I, we definitely showed a lot of love to the artists grinding in Toledo and gave the community a sense of hope that big things can happen if we all learn to motivate and persevere together.” GlassCity“Home Grown Internationally Known” drops 11-20-12 on Holy Toledo Productions/Flow-4-Ever Entertainment.”
As promised, our first every video shot exclusively for Hip-Hop Life & Times. It’s been a few months in the works, and we couldn’t have picked any better MCs to hit our freestyle/bars videos off with than South West rappers, Twizzy and Jinxsta. These guys absolutely smashed it, along with the talents of our in-house beatboxer Matt Ryder. Watch and enjoy, and subscribe to our Youtube page as we’ll be posting more videos and our bi-weekly podcast up on there from now on.
If you’d like to feature on this, then get in touch with either Stix or myself via our email/twitter/facebook or Youtube accounts.
Also, if you’re feeling these guys then check out the links below to listen to more of their material.
Evening! Well after the storming success of our first podcast, we thought well we’ve gotta give the public what they need. I’ll tell you now that all our phones have been blowing up since then, none of us have had a spare 5 minutes to ourselves. Coke and Enron and Tescos want to give us all their money, but yo we’re gutter kids yeah we won’t sell out for anything!
Anyway aside from that little make-believe, the response was pretty good and so much so we thought we would keep this bi-weekly. This episode we play some classic Immortal Technique, Slick Rick and ODB. As well as the latest underground tracks from Astroid Boys, John Vietnam, Q-Unique, A.C, Tricksta, Reveal, Dr Syntax and loads more. We also update you about our up and coming filming projects with Bristol MCs Twizzy and Jinxsta, and tell you more about The Ruby Kid and Tricksta, the artists that we’ll be interviewing for the future podcasts. This whole episode also demonstrates how to pronounce people’s names wrong; it takes a certain kind of genius that’s for sure. As well as talking about how having a dog is much better than having a child.
So two weeks ago, we posted our first podcast. The response was pretty good and you can listen to it on our/Stix’s Soundcloud so we’ve decided to make it into a permanent bi-weekly thing. The premise of the podcast was to bring people music they might not be aware of, and some classics, and have a little chat about the current state of hip-hop. Last week we played a bunch of new underground jams by UK and U.S artists, and a few classics. A few of the people we included were RZA, Datkid (Split Prophets), Book Thieves, Three Headed Beast, A Tribe Called Quest, Too Many Ts, Jae Apollo, Doomtree and a load more.
This weekend will follow that same narrative of our previous podcast, the next two that follows it will however have interviews from London based MC The Ruby Kid, and UK Promotor/Producer Tricksta from Park Street PR and UK Runnings.
This is something we want to expand upon and get more cats involved with, which is why if you have any artists or tracks you think we need to be exposed to then get in touch with us via our Facebook page, Twitter or email.
We’ll be recording it Saturday night so you can message us up until 9pm UK time.
Not too sure how many of you have seen this, but I thought it’s worth a watch. Charlie Sloth (BBC Radio 1Xtra) travels around the UK hooking up with different locals artists, and finding out about what they’re doing on their side. Whether you live in Britain or not, I think it’s quite an interesting documentary and showcases some really good up and coming talent. Charlie Sloth doesn’t always know what he’s talking about, you know us underground kids will always be too cool for school, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
It features:
Astroid Boys
Mr Phormula & Hoax Emcee
Flow Dem
Goldie Lookin Chain
Jun Tzu
Dan Magill
Sketch Nine
Madhat McGore
Deko
Respek BA
Werd (S.O.S)
Bigg Taj
English Frank

Tez Kidd
Shotty Horroh

The boys in Too Many T’s will be releasing their debut mixtape ‘Earl Necks & Round Grey’ for free this Friday. We’ve been big fans of these guys for a long time (we even featured one of their tracks on our podcast last week), and we’re stoked that they’re finally released a full mixtape, but if you can’t wait that long you can download a free track now from this link.
Also, the group recently preformed on stage Belladrum 2012. with folk band Hoodja, and mashed two of their songs together. It works surprisingly well, and I suggest you take a cheeky peek.
