The West Coast legend Ras Kass joint “Etc” gets the remix treatment. Originally appearing on his classic debut album Soul On Ice (1996) this re-working benefits from the work of Brooklyn production all-stars Da Beatminerz (Black Moon, Eminem) and a new chorus courtesy of Joell Ortiz (Slaughterhouse).
Speaking on their approach to the remix Evil Dee of Da Beatminerz said “I wanted to have a 90’s feel, so I chopped up a sample, added some ill drums & mixed it almost the way we mixed our records back in the day. Joel Ortiz added some extra dopeness to the hook. Understand the flavor, thats a dope hip hop record right there. Word !!!”
The track will appear on ‘Soul On Ice: Revisited’ which drops this coming Monday (Nov 28th) via Blackhouse Records. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of this lyrically complex, west coast masterpiece, The new edition is a remastered 2XLP edition that restores Soul On Ice as it was originally intended by the artist (before label politics altered the final release). The awesome offering is further bolstered with an additional 21 track bonus CD of lost material and unreleased material straight from the DAT masters.
‘Soul On Ice: Revisited’ is limited to a vinyl pressing of 400 total so collectors should pre-order without haste
