The Irony is a big mish mash or samples, and instrumentals. It’s nice to hear an album that really sounds like the artists involved have really been digging through the crates. I mean how else are you going to line up samples of Simple Red’s cover of The Marvelettes’ ‘Holding On’ with Kate Bush? (I’m not sure what song they used, but you can’t really mistake her voice), so kudos to producers GB and Flight Dream, along with the big plethora of other contributors who helped bring this project to light.
Ronnie Brown himself is an interesting rapper, and you can hear him perfecting her craft in every track. The interesting themes and song narrative of every day life, love, growing up and self-reflecting keep it fresh, and he’s got a really good hold on his style. That may sound like an obvious, but a lot of rappers really aren’t masters of their own style and flow. I’m was also really hyped on his track ‘Phone Calls’, where he partners up with fellow MC RJ Bagger.
Whilst he may still be working on his craft, and hasn’t quite hit everything part yet, this is a good, solid album and some real jewels in it. if you’re a fan of Fashawn, KB Da Boss and Aloe Blacc then give this a listen especially.
