Brooklyn Meets Africa is an international collaborative joint venture, between Brooklyn MC, Prinxmikul and South African producers Envy and Vez The Scenster. The result of the three coming together is a healthy mix of some fresh soul beats, tasty samples and a nice balance of hip-hop from two different perspectives.
You may remember we posted about Davis Absolute a few months. For those who don’t, we told you all how great his lyrical flow and style was and you should give him a listen. Well he’s since realised ‘Blendtape. Vol 1 SoulBeat’ that addresses with internal and external conflict, and Davis’ overall personal faith in God. Whether you believe in god isn’t important here, this is a really passionate release that’s going to put a smile on your face regardless.
For fans of Lupe, Mr Green, Saigon.
A chilled out, easy listening track describing the on-going struggle to get recognised. Broke rappers stand up!
A pretty poignent track from Venomous2000 and DJ Priority, featuring Marie Kanu.’Homecoming’ Charts the story of a soldier back from his 4th tour of duty fighting in the desert. It follows him from his time in the war battling with the realisation that he might not be helping the people he’s been sent to protect from the enemy. Still suffering from PTSD from his last tours, and wondering how he’ll adjust to civilian life, and resolve issues with his family and squaring things away with God. The final verse concerns the story of the solider years later, still fighting internal battles.
It’s done with a lot of care, and a lot of sincerity.
Serious head bopping on this one.
Didn’t you know, hip-hop and snow are synonymous with one another? Supar Novar, Big Ben, Ragz Sweet Jones and Danny Bones rip this track, not a huge fan of the auto-tune but a fan of the verses for sure. To get the mixtape for free that features this track, check their Bandcamp.
‘Remixes & Collaborations’ is mix of some classics you may well know, like Wu-Tang and Ice Cube tracks, and a few you may well not (even if you say you do, come on baby it’s okay not to know everything released before 2000. We still love ya), along with some really well placed collaborations.
JP Balboa has really opened his black book and recruited some serious spitters for this release, not to mention some fresh French rap (you know that sounds so good to us ignorant English speakers). I’m just gonna give you the list of guests and let you decide on giving this a listen. Although in reality if you don’t, yousss a fool son.
