Sacramento Knoxx has released an extremely passionate and sincere track that coincide with ‘Idle No More’ grassroots Founders and Organizers from across Canada, in Solidarity with Common Causes – a new initiative bringing together social justice, environmental, labour and other Activist Groups. The song is an open letter to the MC’s estranged father, and touches on the struggles of the Native Americans, a cause that is often forgotten. I’m very happy that there are rappers out there promoting causes and issues like this. Keep on.
The production is by J Dilla, and although I’m a fan of the late, great man don’t let your own personal opinions about him, or people jumping on his bandwagon to get in the way of this song. Sacramento Knoxx’s content and style work really well with J Dilla’s beats, but with or without it, it would still be a great track. For more information on Idle No More, check the Bandcamp above.
