Hastyle (The Barber-Artist) is back with the third single off his critically acclaimed debut album “Hair Cuts” (out now on Grey Square Records) – “Enemies In Disguise” – this time sharing mic duties with Rashan over a 70’s inspired Ownmasta beat.
As crazily conceptual as ever (Has both directed and produced this video with his wife), the background to the video sees the two main characters, Smokey and Kuttie, being framed.
In 1978 they ran numbers down in the basement and spread the wealth to their community, topped off by their yearly Cadillac races in a secret location. However some member of their crew, “the enemy in disguise”, snitched and they were caught.
Fast forward to 2000, we find that Niki Red, the daugher of Smokey and Kuttie’s local bartender from back in the day (White Diamond) has organized a reunion race for the original “Cadillac Gents” with the sole intention of finding the snitch that framed Smokey and Kuttie in the first place. Mid video, during the race, she rolls her eyes at the suspect who looks the same as the 70’s snitch! “The Gents” find out who the “smiley face” is and take him away at the end.
The beginning of the vid has Smokey and Kuttie at the lawyers office about to win the case.
This is like a film within a video, with the dope soundtrack to match!!!
