“Gil Scott Tribute” is the latest release from the collaborative forces of sOuL and Woodstock, and a video blog session recording with Headnodic.
Recorded in one take Woodstock plays the beat live on his MPC, sampling the late great Gil Scott Heron’s “We Almost Lost Detroit”, recreating some of Hip-Hop’s past interpretations of the original sample while creating his own altogether. With the combination of sOuL bouncing political and cultural commentary that is part news hour and personal struggle, and Headnodic’s cinematic lens, Gil Scott Tribute pays homage to the poet, while embodying his example to speak truth.

After supporting Pete Rock & CL Smooth on their recent Jazz Cafe residency, it’s now time for MC/Producer Micall Parknsun to take centre stage for the launch of his highly anticipated, entirely self-produced ‘Me Myself & Akai’ album. The title refers to Micall’s trusty MPC sampler/drum-machine, so with that theme in mind, who better to get the party started than one of the UK’s leading beat-makers – Paul White. While considered part of the electronic ‘beats scene’ (alongside the likes of Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and label-mate Bullion), Paul’s Hip Hop sensibility has always been at the forefront of his work. No wonder he’s stacking up production credits for some of the hottest rappers emerging from the U.S underground today, including Danny Brown, Homeboy Sandman and Guilty Simpson. Expect a whole new take on ‘live’ Hip Hop with an array of special guests (turntablist DJ Jazz T, multi-percussionist Mo Kolours, drummer extraordinaire Kwake, MPC-wizard Apollo and more!) adding their own individual flavours to the mix for this truly one-off event. Hosted by Jehst.
Don’t forget, the album drops 28/01/13 on CD and digital download but you can be ahead of the herd by pre-ordering the CD now from YNR – shipping 21/01/13. PRE ORDER THE CD HERE!
