Millennium Jazz have just released the first in a series of 12 pack (Check the work rate) that will be released every month. ‘Randoms’ is a healthy mix of some sounds reminiscent of MJ’s earlier material, but with the added maturity of age and new ideas filtered into the EP to give it a fresh new sound. It features all the favourites from the camp, Diligent Fingers, Awakening Dawn, Ed XL, Gadget, Skinnista, along with new-to-the-team, Blue Buttons. Go cop this, and we’ll be keeping up to date with their next releases ove the coming months.
(Also, how hungry does the front cover make you though? James Greenway is the artist responsible for this one.)
A song that gets better as you listen for sure.
“To kick the 4 day bank holiday off in real style The Doctor’s Orders have grabbed a team of their favourite DJs to bring you a night of funk fuelled fun.
We have an incredible all star line up headlined by a man so legendary that even the queen had to give him props with an OBE; Soul II Soul’s very own Jazzie B. With a truck full of awards & experience there are few men that can rock a crowd with such ease as the original funki dread.
Bringing the uncut Hip-Hop bangers we have Kiss FM’s Shortee Blitz and the first lady of Hip-Hop Sarah Love both of whom have travelled the world and the airways since cutting their teeth rocking clubs. Coming with something a little different, as he always does, The Doctor’s Orders head honcho Spin Doctor will be spinning an all AV set of your favourite videos.
Spinning straight party sets to give you something to recover from over the bank holiday are a team of The Doctor’s Orders regulars in the shape of super hot producers Eric Lau & The Last Skeptik and one of our resident rockers Mo Fingaz who will be warming the party up with an early doors set out on the terrace.”

Baltimore MC has been through it all, and even though he’s still only young he’s already had to fight and beat cancer. Whilst recovering from his life-saving preventive surgery he decided to record a free tribute album entitled ‘Jackin’ Jil’ using beats from her previous releases. ‘Golden Lady’ a classic fan song, written about his love for Jil Scott and the positive effect her music has had on him, whether that was mashing through a bad job he hated, or celebrating more positive aspects of his day to day. I’m a fan of Jil Scott, so I was pretty much already convinced, but Substantial is a gifted MC and writer and his deep flow gives him a nice edge, and works well with Steph’s relaxed and smooth vocals. The album isn’t out yet, but you can pick up this for free and his latest release ‘Home Is Where The Art Is’ by following the links below.
Northampton rapper ILLA ILL teams up with East-Midlands based company LF8 Music to record a studio video for ‘The Parent Trap’. An extremely dark song with a super uplifting instrumental that juxtaposes the whole story, which definitely doesn’t prepare you for the pretty fucked up ending. ILLA ILL retales it with an honest warming about the culture of a lot of kids.
“The story focuses on 2 young characters (1 male and 1 female) and explains how their lives become intertwined and the trials and tribulations they end up facing due to their own home scenarios. Many of the issues bought up in this track will be painfully close to home for many listeners in council estates up and down the UK.”
Gone Wallace teams up with 9th Wonder for this fresh new track ‘James Howlett’. Big fan of Gone Wallace’s verses for this one, he’s constatly stepping up his game. He’s released a plethora of material, so if you fancy checking out some of his previous albums, head over to his Bandcamp page and take a look; most of them are free.

Grade A (formerly known as A Blaze) has recently released his highly anticipated Beat Tape ‘My Journey’. The tape stays very true to its name, and is a definite show of progression and growth.
If you’re still missing the rappers or singers, the vocal hook on ‘Be With You’ and the only guest MCs Naza Da Great and Rob Nitti should on ‘Weary Nights’ should tide you over. Although if I’m honest, I really didn’t mess the rappers’ presence, and it almost came as a surprise when the two MCs appeared; not to say they didn’t add to the record because both verses are solid and really showcase their individuals styles nicely.
Back to the beats, and I know I’ve said this a few times, but I there really is something for everyone on this record. There’s a few more ‘poppy’ joints, which I can personally never be mad at, although they’re always mixed so well with other heavier elements that even the musics snobs amongst you can’t fault it.
There’s a huge soul influence, which to to be honest it wouldn’t be a hip-hop beat tape if it didn’t-along with some more left field ideas and loop progression thrown in there for good measure too.
The more I listen the more I hear Ant from Atmosphere’s similar style, especially in ‘Hit You’. That’s not to say that it’s biten, more that if you went to a show, if these guys both played you wouldn’t be surprised, nor disappointed.
Words: Aimee
For fans of Apathy, Ant of Atmosphere, Develop.
This is a really touching and pretty personal song from TrixCity and Styler, written for and dedicated to their older brother who’s being shipped off overseas. Whatever your personal opinions on the army and military; this is a really loving track about sibling love and you can’t fault that at all.
