J.Nolan – ‘Blue Skies’ (Prod. Tuelv) (Free Track) @J_Nolan and @TuelvBeats

Mm mmm someone give Tuelv a high five for me, because this is some of the nicest production I’ve heard in a long time. My ears are very appreciative of it, thankyouverymuch. It’s all about using pianos and drum loops together, not against each other, and he’s got it completely locked down.
When it comes to the vocal side of this track, I’ll be honest I’m a little bias already when it comes to the lyrical content because I completely agree with what J.Nolan is rapping about, although I won’t give the game away, and let you listen to it for yourself, ’cause I know the world’s full of some judgemental little trolls. J. Nolan raps with a lot of passion, and the sound of urgency in his voice really rounds the lyrics off nicely. Realist, but optimistic raps are always a sure fire way of grabbing my attention.

A nice track from Praverb, featuring the talents of The Tom Hardy. It’s a well thought-out collaboration, and the two rapper’s flow works really well together. It’s one of those songs that the more you listen, the more extra bits you discover. Plus, I really can’t be mad at the outro scratches and strings on the intro, that is pretty much guaranteed to at least get a second listen out of me.
For fans of Atmosphere, Dre Murray and J.Pinder.

Verses finally releases the trailer for the much anticipated ‘’Basement Flow’’ from his very first Mixtape ‘’Thoughts of Colo[u]r’’, which was released back in September. Basement Flow was produced by Dan Varnham and was recorded in one take. The video is shot in the gritty streets of London and is a representation of his current status quo but with a clear message ‘’ Yes I can make it from the bottom to the top ’’.  It serves as a motivation for anyone on the daily grind in their chosen paths.

GQ feat Rapsody & Rocki Evans- I Know (Prod by Khrysis) [AUDIO] @LifeOfGQ

GQ

Born and raised in  Oakland, California, GQ (also known as Quentin Thomas)  found his passion for music at an early age; nine to be exact.  Influenced  by a wide array of music genres and artist, the young GQ became a fan of lyrics  and started to pen his first rhymes; all while training to be a college hoops  star.  In 2004 he was recruited by Roy Williams to play for the University of North Carolina’s storied basketball  program; and was a member of the 2005 National Championship team his freshman  year.  Some years later, and already a champion of one passion, he was well  on his way to being a champion of his other –  rhyming.

Currently, GQ is setting up  for a big 2013 introduction with his two part release, “Death Threats and Love Notes”: The  Prelude the prequel to his debut album “Death Threats and Love Notes”  which features guest appearances from  Nipsey Hussle, Kurupt, Rapsody, Heather Victoria and production from  9th Wonder & The Soul Council. GQ’s “Death Threats & Love Notes”: The  Prelude will be released on  26-03-2013 via Jamla  Records.

Here we have for you the latest leak, “I Know,” from his forthcoming “Death Threats and Love Notes”: The  Prelude, GQ connects with fellow Jamla artist Rapsody  and Rocki Evans over another Khrysis banger.

Orion – ‘Alphas’ Beat Tape (Name Your Price)@OrionAnakaris

Look at me, posting beat tapes every other day like my life depended on it. Seriously though, if you’d told me I’d actually listen to a whole record of pure beats, only 12 months ago I would’ve said you were speaking lies, and a pox on your house!
Sure enough though here I am about to tell you all about the benefits of downloading London beat maker, Orion’s newest offering Alphas will bring to your sad, drape life. I kid, I’m sure you’re very happy, but that aside this record is very good and I wasn’t kidding about the benefits of copping it. It’s an extremely eclectic (I love using that word right?) record, and I’m a big fan of Orion’s use of wind instruments in his songs. It gives the album a fresh feel, and reminds me of the early beat makers of many a moon ago. Even though the album has a lot of little surprises, and some unexpected joints to it you can definitely hear his own signature stamp. For a UK artist, he doesn’t stick to a particular style that a lot of other producers do when it comes to their geography, and he borrows a lot from obvious continental and U.S producers and DJs, which is far from bite, and more of a healthy nod for their inspiration.

My final thought on the whole record is, if you’re an MC you should hit up Orion and see what plans you can make; it would be nice to hear the right rapper on a few of his tracks.

For fans of Develop, Dan Angell and 7L.

Ronnie Brown – ‘The Irony’ Album (Name Your Price) @ImRonnieBrown

The Irony is a big mish mash or samples, and instrumentals. It’s nice to hear an album that really sounds like the artists involved have really been digging through the crates. I mean how else are you going to line up samples of Simple Red’s cover of The Marvelettes’ ‘Holding On’ with Kate Bush? (I’m not sure what song they used, but you can’t really mistake her voice), so kudos to producers GB and Flight Dream, along with the big plethora of other contributors who helped bring this project to light.
Ronnie Brown himself is an interesting rapper, and you can hear him perfecting her craft in every track. The interesting themes and song narrative of every day life, love, growing up and self-reflecting keep it fresh, and he’s got a really good hold on his style. That may sound like an obvious, but a lot of rappers really aren’t masters of their own style and flow. I’m was also really hyped on his track ‘Phone Calls’, where he partners up with fellow MC RJ Bagger.

Whilst he may still be working on his craft, and hasn’t quite hit everything part yet, this is a good, solid album and some real jewels in it. if you’re a fan of Fashawn, KB Da Boss and Aloe Blacc then give this a listen especially.

New video from Michigan duo ‘Joka & T.O’ aka .KOM, This is the first video from their upcoming EP with the track entitled “You Love Me?”. The song is a jazz motivated, Jill Scott (He Loves Me) sampled boom bap mix up produced by el-R. The video is a story playing off of the idea of love and disappointment. Usually men are shown negatively for using women with ulterior motive but this video shows how women can be wrong as well by being overbearing & coercing. Their full Ep entitled pHree EP will come in upcoming summer.
