DJ Shiftee hits the streets of Berlin to showcase his mind-blowing mastery of Traktor DJ. http://www.native-instruments.com/tra…

TRAKTOR DJ brings the leading pro DJ software to iOS with an intuitive app for instant, high-impact DJ sets. Create mixes in seconds — put your hands directly on beautiful waveforms and manipulate them using gestures you already know.

[Please note: Traktor DJ is being used as two additional decks in the club scene. It is patched into the mixer through a Traktor Audio 6 interface. It is not being used to control Traktor Pro 2.]

May the 5th just got a whole load more interesting with a heavy-duty line-up of serious turntable talent  gathering at KOKO for the May bank holiday Sunday! Flying in from the states for an exclusive set will be A Tribe Called Quest’s DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Beat Junkie J Rocc for two rare DJ sets.  joining forces with the UK’s own DJ Yoda playing a classic Hip Hop AV set, the hardest working man in the music biz DJ Vadim and UK DMC Champ and guaranteed party starter Mr Thing. To top it off The Last Skeptik will take to the stage to get things started in the best possible way. Now this is a party.

Flying in exclusively for this show is A Tribe Called Quest DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammad. An integral part of ATCQ’s iconic productions, Ali joined J-Dilla and Q-Tip in the collective The Ummah after ATCQ’s breakup and then later formed Lucy Pearl with Raphael Saadiq. Imagine how good of a DJ you must be to have a resume like that!

One of the original turntablists, J. Rocc founded the Beat Junkies in 1992 which became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop. In addition to numerous mixtapes and his own production for Stones Throw releases, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib’s live shows since the early 2000’s, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during the group’s live events. Selectors don’t get much more respected than this.

One of ‘The 10 DJs you must see before you die’ (Q magazine); ‘One of the Top Three DJs in the World’ (HHC); the world’s principal AV artist; part dance-floor destroying selector, part turntablist supreme DJ Yoda has been amazing audiences world-wide with his Audiovisual sets. Tonight he plays a classic Hip Hop set reminiscent of the first mixtapes that first brought him to the attention of the public. Exclusive!

Joining us for the evening is a Soundcrash favourite, USSR born producer DJ Vadim. Vadim has been busy touring the US and making rooms full of people jump about like there’s no tomorrow. Catch him hyping the crowd with his eclectic mix of reggae, soul, electronica, grime, hip hop and of course his own legendary productions to top off this mega night!

Former Scratch Perverts member and DMC Scratch Champion Mr Thing will be doing his thing on the night, playing all your favourite hip hop, old school beats and breaks: the flavour of choice from the prolific London DJ. Thing ‘s world class reputation has seen him touring and performing with the likes of ythe legendary DJ Jazzy Jeff, Marley Marl, Beastie Boys, DJ Premier or Slum Village. You know he’ll smash it.

Corin aka The Last Skeptik has come a long way from building his first beats whilst skipping classes at school. From releasing his first 12” single in 2004 featuring Sway, he has been steadily gaining fans with his production wizardry. Fast forward to 2013 and The Last Skeptik has released two albums, the first being with rapper Rewd Adams, and the second, a highly anticipated instrumental project for BBE Records. Add to that residencies at Livin Proof and Knew Knowledge and a blinding showcase SXSW and U.S tour, the infamous KOKO stage could not be shared with anyone else…

Best Of Hard Knock TV : De La Soul talks Competition in Hip Hop, Native Tongues, Buddy, Hits vs Classics [VIDEO] @Hardknocktv

Posted by hiphoplifeandtimes on April 5, 2013
Posted in: Interviews, Music Videos. 2 Comments

http://www.hardknock.tv Exclusive in-depth interview with De La Soul at Paid Dues. In part 1, De la reminisces about the making of their track “Buddy” and shares that the amazing moments that were captured in videos like Buddy happened because they were not thinking about how much money they were going to make, instead they were enjoying the people around them, making music and having a good time. “The fun comes in when you forget about this being a career and what we are earning. The dollar is evil! -Dave aka Trugoy the Dov.

As the interview progresses De La Soul talks about up coming tour with LL Cool J, Ice Cube and Public Enemy called The Kings Of The Mic and how they are looking forward to the competition on stage. Pos goes on to explain that friendly competition is good for keeping everyone on there toes when performing. Pos tells the story of how when Big Daddy Kane performed before LL Cool J he would want to “Crush this shit” even though Kane was cool with LL. LL would be under pressure when he came to perform because Kane had just ripped the crowd. Same with De La when they opened for Tribe Called Quest and Tribe had a hot record out. The competition was always friendly because at the end of the day they all had respect for each other. De la thinks that now days popularity is championed over good music and artists approach performing from a mindset of self gratification instead of challenging each other to see who can get the crowd the liveliest. De la also brings up the point that they hear a lot of hits these days but not too many classics that people are going to be listening 10 years from now.

Before we finish part 1 of the interview, De La talks about the chance of a Native Tongues reunion album, tour or something. You will have to watch the video to get their response.

This is just Part 1, stay tuned on Monday for part two of hardknock.tv conversation with De La Soul exclusively at www.hardknock.tv
