Preview for the new audio-visual DJ show from 2 times World Champion turntablist DJ Woody.

‘Hip Hop is 40′ On August 11th 1973 the father of Hip Hop DJ Kool Herc threw a party that was to help spawn a Worldwide movement. In 2013 Hip Hop turns 40!

To honour this DJ Woody launches his new audio-visual DJ show as an ode to the music and culture that changed his and so many others’ lives over the last 4 decades. ‘Hip Hop is 40’ chronicles and celebrates all things Hip Hop. Starting with the original breaks, the first rap records and through to party rockers spanning the 80’s up until today.

Building on his groundbreaking AV shows ‘Turntables In Technicolor’ and ‘Big Phat 90’s’ and utilising his trademark edits, animations, graphics and World champion turntablist skills. ‘Hip Hop is 40′ is DJ Woodys’ most ambitious show to date!

Brother Beatbox combines live instrumentation with sampling, creating an eclectic sound and style that pays homage to golden era boom bap whilst embracing more modernised styles. Brother Beatbox has one desire when producing music and that is… to keep heads nodding.

J Berd of the Maryland based Hip Hop collective Anonymous Conglomerate explains what mastering one’s craft means, saying “to truly master something, you have to have been exposed to every aspect of the craft.” As an MC that means mastering “patterns, schemes, timing, inflection, relevance, adlibs, etc.”

Berd, along with his AC cohorts, Heroes 4 Hire, releases “Craft Mastered” featuring One Ton, the 5th leak off their forthcoming project, ‘Power Lunch;. The track showcases not only J Berd’s MCing, but his frequent collaborator One Ton’s skills as well. Not to mention the behind the boards mastery of the Heroes 4 Hire.

Young Black And Gifted are producer Kidd Called Quest and Female emcee Golden. To call Golden a female mc does her a injustice, let’s just say emcee.

Over the last 6 months Golden has emerged as a emcee worth checking for, her ability to spit rhymes equals or surpasses some of her male counterparts or submissions we receive here at HHL&T, not to mention her versatility too, she can switch flows and tempo with no problem and give you weed rhymes, party verses, serious introspective joints, & she has fun doing it, and she comes off as honest and being herself.

This a dope joint coupled with Kidd Called Quest’s Boom Bap production and Golden’s lyricism the duo work well off each other and is well worth checking out….
