M.O.P.’s Billy Danze: I’m Sick of Violence in Hip Hop @vladtv #VIDEO @BILLDANZEMOP

Posted by hiphoplifeandtimes on August 31, 2014
Posted in: Culture, Interviews, Music Videos. Leave a comment

M.O.P.’s Billy Danze addresses violence in battle rap and the hip hop culture as a whole during an exclusive interview with VladTV, and says that he’s tired of seeing it play out, despite feeling like his group M.O.P. didn’t help the situation. He adds that the artists of today will be regretful of their decisions if they get involved with violence, and he feels it brings the entire culture down.

The New York rapper then speaks on two of the most significant acts of violence to have occurred in the culture, referring to the deaths of 2Pac and Biggie. Billy says that there have been other violent deaths in the game, but Biggie and Pac’s were different, because of their caliber and the fact that the murders allegedly stemmed from beef between them.

The M.O.P. emcee wraps things up by detailing how he believes folks in a rapper’s entourage can be the bigger liability, as they often feel like they have something to prove, so they go out and do something stupid like shoot someone.

Skateboarding, Hip Hop & Gangs In The Streets Of Long Beach: Skate and the City @NetworkA #VIDEO

Posted by hiphoplifeandtimes on August 30, 2014
Posted in: Culture, Interviews, Music Videos, News. Leave a comment

Pro Skater Terry Kennedy shows how music, fashion, and skateboarding intertwine on the streets of Los Angeles. Terry takes it back to Long Beach, the birthplace of his skateboarding career, and talks about how the realities of the gang-influenced streets informed his rise in the skate community. Skater Felix Arguelles drops by to share how the Cherry Park scene help bridged racial divides and grew to become a skateboard tourist attraction. Terry and LBC rapper Crooked I chat at Victorious Barber Studio about how they experienced the fusion of hip-hop and skating in the early days coming up in Long Beach. Terry hits El Dorado Park, the neighborhood’s first actual skatepark, with Kevin Romar, Jacob Walder, Diego Najera, and Scott Kane, then takes it to the legendary Belmont Ledges with Chad Tim Tim. Skate And The City continues in Downtown LA next Wednesday on Network A.

Synik x Rod McCoy – ‘Rolling Stoned’ #AUDIO #DL + #SELAH Pre-Order @_RodMCcoy_ @Audible_Hustle

rollingstoned

Mississippi native Synik & Alabama native Rod McCoy are collaborating on their new project “Selah”, which is defined as a combination between two verses. It only seems fitting that the two, who share a brotherly bond after serving time together in the military, spent 33 months putting together what can only be described as a cool, calm and player-like soundtrack.

After meeting in Turkey back in the summer of 2011 while on military assignment, it wasn’t long before they ran the streets of Izmir and treated them as if they were their own. Over the next 8 months the duo would go on to build their bond as artists and start collaborating on an idea for a project that was born in November of 2012. The idea came to life at Lee’s Motel in Douglasville, GA where all their writing and hard work came to a head and “Selah” was born.

Features are light, with label mates E-Jay and Blunder rounding out the appearances. Production comes from Skully Cruz, King Haze, The Audible Doctor, Jay B, VenoTheBuilder, fellow military veteran Manhe and more, all adding their sound to “Selah”. Setting themselves apart from the typical “turn up” sound, Synik & Rod are here to prove they are more than just another rap act coming out of the South.

Synik x Rod McCoy‘s ‘SELAH’ drops 5th September pre-order it here

C.Shreve the Professor – ‘Summer Ransom’ #AUDIO #DL #VIDEOS @seeshreve @FreeTheOptimus

summerransom

Recorded in 2014 between April and July, ‘Summer Ransom’ is the 10th full length release from Chris Shreve’s brainchild Free the Optimus. Mixing a number of tried and true FTO soundscape architects (ILe Flottante, Shep Bryan, Handbook, P.U.R.P.) along with plenty of new connections (Whokairs?, Soul Monk, Dylan Guye) makes for what feels like a new classic in what is already a deep underground catalog. The Professor anchors all 18 tracks with features from Mike L!VE, DJ Jet, Jrusalam, Tuscon, Martin Snoddy and Trapbo’ Chad. The album was mixed and mastered by Whokairs? at his studio in Asheville, NC.

C.Shreve describes Summer Ransom as follows:  “A new chapter in the same running dialogue. To Free the Optimus means to unlock your absolute best potential. This FTO installment is both the summer version and the ransom version. I was born in the summer–I want my time. We all want that. I’m claimin mine on some Seinfeld summer of George shit. This is an MC’s album. For rappers of all kinds, I want you to listen and feel some type of way. You either gon say go get em, or feel like i’m questioning your dopeness. And I am. If the shoe fits, y’all should wear it. I’m a true fan of the raw MCs out here doing this. I vibe with y’all in the front row. But that fake shit, that fraudulent garbage, nah man. F@ck you. We’re takin this thing ransom.”
