Wake Self – Different Ft. Equipto, Raashan Ahmad & Miles Bonny #Single @WakeSelf @Equipto @RaashanAhmad @MilesBonny @ParkStreetPR

Albuquerque emcee Wake Self is a seasoned vet at this point. With opening slots for notable acts such as Dilated Peoples, KRS-ONE, Blackalicious, MURS, and De La Soul, tours across Europe, a solo albums called The Healing Process, Good Things Happen To Those Who Wake, and preparation of his upcoming new album, he’s been busy to say the least. New single, “Different,” features Bay Area legend Equipto (Andre Nickatina/Bored Stiff), fellow Oaklander/member of Crown City Rockers Raashan Ahmad and singer Miles Bonny. The song talks about staying true to yourself and avoiding mainstream ideals. MaulSkull, who produced Sleep’s last album and works with Sadistik, also produced the beat.

“I address rappers not thinking outside the box, and how the industry standard is continually rehashing the same subject matter for a quick buck,” Wake explains. “Raashan illustrates a familiar scenario for most rap cats who dreamed of being an emcee growing up and wanting to be like your favorite artist, until you finally understand being yourself is what’s important. Equipto really says a lot in his verse and goes into how the true artists in hip-hop are the ones who are really preserving the culture regardless of what’s popular.”

“Wake’s wordplay, delivery and selection of words to rhyme with always impress me,” Equipto adds. “He’s a dope emcee. He expressed how he felt about the rap game being the ‘same old, same old.’ I also agreed, but I wanted to put a balance to it. Maybe looking at it by saying without that weak same ‘ish’ out there, our job and responsibilities aren’t as important. We have to make the most of our opportunity on the microphone.”

Check out http://www.wakeself.com for more information and to cop the single and visit http://www.rapstation.com/news/wake.self.rs to read a full interview with the man himself.

Deepo – ‘Government Shoes’ – OUT NOW!!! @deepodon

Posted by hiphoplifeandtimes on May 19, 2015
Posted in: Audio, News. Leave a comment

a1878223058_10

Government Shoes is a journey into the political awakening of Deepo. From ambiguous cynicism, to hate, open revolt, and ultimately love. In Britain, our police commit murder and the institution allows it. Our government is controlled by corporate forces operating to enslave us, hidden beneath a veil of ignorance. Resistance is infiltrated, agitated, and led astray. Rappers want to chat about bumble bees and umbrellas? …… Knobs….. ennit…
Deepo has linked up with producers Kydro and Bricky Mortar to bring you this long awaited 6 track EP with Room2 Records. Songs written over the course of two years document the mind of a young man trying to make sense of the madness. The beats are heavy, the rhymes both serious and absurd. This sets the agenda for the movement. Let them elect who they want… #VoteDeepo 11may….

Sonnyjim – Live @ The Bonanza (Prod. by Micall Parknsun) @Sonnyjim01 @MicallParknsun @EatgoodRecords @ParkStreetPR

Brand new from Sonnyjim, Live @ The Bonanza EP has four new tracks all produced by UK mainstay Micall Parknsun. Parknsun stays carving a niche for himself as a go to producer (since the full length production on his last LP Me Myself & Akai) and the EATGOOD head honcho stays “shooting big pheasants in the mid section”.

The first fruit of their collabs was Parky’s remix to Leafdogs (High Focus) Royal Flush from last years How To Tame Lions record, they went on to knock out three other tracks and drafted in features from Jyager (YNR) and Jokerstarr (Flukebeat/Dont Flop).

Also tying in with the release we’ve got the visual to Live @ The Bonanza shot by Carlos BFG.
