Today the NYC veteran emcee Tragedy Khadafi unleashes his brand new album establishing his dues as one of the “builders” of the Hip Hop we love today! With a career that started all the way back in 1985, Tragedy is indeed considered one of the founders of NY Hip Hop having played a critical role in the discovery of artists such as Mobb Deep, Cormega, Capone-N-Noreaga and more!
Against all odds, Tragedy has always been a trendsetter. After gaining hype as a teenager by releasing “Go, Queensbridge” in 1985, coining the term “illmatic” in 1988, and running with Marley Marl and the Juice Crew, Tragedy was convicted at 16 as a juvenile on robbery charges and sentenced to prison. In prison, he became a member of the Five-Percent Nation and changed his name to Intelligent Hoodlum.
His early work such as his debut, Intelligent Hoodlum, (which was produced by Marley marl and Large Professor) and his sophomore effort, Tragedy, were brilliant projects which spawned and greatly influenced the QB artists that would eventually rise to prominence; Cormega, Mobb Deep, Nas and Capone N Noreaga (some of which he played an integral role in not only their ascension, but also as a key contributor to their sound.
Trag’s third album, Against All Odds, was scheduled for release in 1999, but conflict with his label stalled the release; though it was finally released in 2001, Stints of incarceration stalled his artistic output until he released Blood Ballads and Thug Matrix in 2006; all of which were met with overwhelming press reception. Shortly after those releases, Tragedy was once again sentenced to four years in prison and eventually released in 2010. His critically acclaimed documentary, Tragedy: The Story Of Queensbridge vividly details his life and struggles; born into extreme poverty and drug infested upbringing.

Danny Diatribe’s new video ‘Jimmys Bets’, produced by DJ Cutterz from the Taste The Diff’rence crew is lifted from a collection of tracks called “Tales From the Down and Outs”, a concept album detailing the lives of characters based in and around places where he has lived and still lives in Manchester, and Derry where he’s from in Ireland.
The album blends a range of characters he has seen in recent times and a few from his past as he had grown up to make an album which he describes as “Hip Hop, James Joyce style.” This is the first in a series of videos coming in 2018 from Danny Diatribe and Cutterz.
