ABOUT GODS’ILLA

First, there was Run DMC then Public Enemy, A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def & Talib Kweli, etc. Now introducing, Gods’Illa; the evolution of true Hip-Hop music. With lyrical prowess, presence and authenticity reminiscent of the glory days, Gods’Illa, a hip-hop group consisting of 3 actual brothers Acem Eternal Mind, God Allah Truth & Powerful Rasheem Mathematics, has stepped on to the scene to provide the masses with a sound that shifts the paradigm and brings the focus of the music back to the experiences of everyday people. The name Gods’Illa (God Is Illa) embodies not only the group’s culture but also the scale of music they create in comparison to the competition.

Formed in 2004, Gods’Illa’s journey began well before the brothers banded to collectively embark on this dream. Acem, the eldest of the three, was first to display his love of music as part of S.C.A.N; a group created by international rap artist Substantial under the Unlimited Vinyl Ink umbrella. Not long after, Truth followed suit and began performing at local talent shows throughout the Washington, DC metro area, developing his musical craft while shadowing his older brothers movements. So, it comes at no surprise that 300 miles away in Brooklyn, NY, Powerful, the youngest of the brotherly trio, began experimenting with writing and effortlessly became the missing piece to the group.

Since their debut on Unlimited Vinyl’s, Make Da Face mixtape in 2005, Gods’Illa has performed throughout the Washington, DC area and Mid-Atlantic Region opening for legendary acts like Brand Nubian in addition to several other performances including but not limited to: Capital Hip Hop Soulfest, Hip-Hop on the Hill (McDaniel College), CMJ Showcase and the world renown End of the Weak Mic Series. In 2009, the group garnered a great deal of notable achievements including placing #1 in MTV’s VMA Best Breakout DC Competition followed by the release of the critically-acclaimed Pre-Lease EP which attracted the attention of legendary DJ/producer DJ Scratch as well as 9th Wonder. Gods’Illa has been featured on sites such as Okayplayer, DJBooth.net and even Peter Rosenberg has begun including their music on Late Night with Peter Rosenberg show on NYC’s Hot 97.

With the ability to tell stories through the use of powerful rhymes that transcend life, Gods’Illa promises to truly be a cut above the rest. The brothers vary in age as they do in style but it’s their unique element of creativity that helps to create a sound collectively described as Universal.

ARTIST: The 83 King ft Hekla Kosh, Mudmowth & Ralph Rip Sh!t
TITLE: ‘Rotter’
LINK: http://associatedminds.bandcamp.com/track/rotter
Released: 26-09-2011

Do you remember when you first heard hip-hop and knew you loved it? For ‘9 out of 10 cats’ that had something to do with the pure dirty, balls-out attitude that was coming through the speakers. That beat made your neck almost instantly snap back and forth and you made that scrunch face we all do. It just gelled with you.  Well Rotter’s one of those. It’s not trend chasing. It’s not refined. It’s rotten.

Made in 2008, it’s the lead track to be taken from the forthcoming ‘Hidden Thoughts’ compilation that will contain previously unreleased tracks along with one or two that may have slipped under people’s radar. At the helm was the uncovered production gem The 83 King and featuring Hekla Kosh, Mudmowth and Ralph Rip Shit you already know everyone brings it. Style kings.

Phonte, “Eternally” f. Median | Event Electronics’ “20/20 Music” compilation to feature Guilty Simpson, Ras Kass, Nottz, Jake One, DJ Babu, Rapper Big Pooh, Oh No and more…

From will.i.am to Lil B, Royce Da 5’9 to King Mez, Phonte is nothing less than a chameleon when it comes to the work (and collaborators) he has amassed over the past few years. While fans of his work, the entirety of Little Brother and music in general have already checked out his brand new Charity Starts At Home solo album, one of its standout tracks, Eternally, is being exclusively released for free download as part of DJBooth.net’s new Event 20/20 Music project.

Produced by 9th Wonder, who of course flips a soul sample into a supremely mellow beat, and featuring the always creative Median on the mic alongside Phonte, who’s just as comfortable referencing Pixar as he is ATCQ, Eternally is the first in a series of records commissioned to celebrate the recently re-launched 20/20 BAS studio monitors, which were used to mix all the songs on this compilation.

Keep an ear out for more exclusive tracks dropping throughout October and November, with our 20/20 compilation album due to blow up your speakers in November. If you’re a fan of dope hip-hop, dope speakers and listening to dope hip-hop on dope speakers, be sure to hit up Event Electronics to learn more about the 20/20s.

Jailhouse (Sir Tomz, Nih’illi, Cyrus, Blackitude and Juice Aleem) “Lockdown” Out now on iTunes

There’s been no doubting that Sir Tomz and his label Jailhouse Records have been making noise. Sir Tomz is no new comer to the UK Hip-Hop scene and has indeed featured on, produced and remixed tracks for Big Dada Records including a Roots Manuva remix, as well as featuring on a compilation album by Tim Westwood. Sir Tomz has played live all over the UK, Spain, France and other European countries and is an artist with a vision and a work ethic to compliment it. With this experience in check and general passion for music running through his veins, Sir Tomz & Jailhouse are holding it for the Midlands and the whole of the UK.

‘Lockdown’ is the latest release from Jailhouse and is a must buy epic twenty track album. Featuring some of the finest artists in Birmingham the album features the talents of Sir Tomz, Nih’illi, Cyrus, Blackitude and Juice Aleem, and is produced entirely by Sir Tomz. Sir Tomz also decided to remix five of the tracks from the album over industry beats and then dropped two music videos for them both having over 4000 hits on You Tube. Remixes have been used on mixtapes from DJ Ames, as well the remixes being used on US released mixtape from DJ 5X & Coast2Coast Mixtapes ‘International Speaker Box 2’ which was hosted by Sir Tomz.

Support for the album from Hip-Hop fans has been overwhelming for an underground release with various leading websites all posting frequent news about the album release. New York based website RealHipHopDaily.com said ‘Jailhouse Ltd look like a camp to offer and with a more universal sound that a lot of the grime/pop rap that is coming from that side of the world’, while the long running UK website RagoMagazine.com said ‘there’s a lot of good music here, its Birmingham Hip-Hop with style, finesse and originality’ and UndergroundPhenomenon.com said ‘This is quality and a level above your average UK Hip-Hop album, this is a massive release that has been made with honesty, integrity and honour.’
