A young veteran of the Birmingham music scene, RTkal has been honing his craft as one of the cities most talented wordsmiths since the early 2000’s.
Inspired by his youth, his generation and his heritage, RTkal has used music to spread positive vibes, unite and entertain audiences across the world.
As an independent artist RT has had charted success in various countries with tracks such as “Puttin’ In The Work” by Ghost Writers and “Run Your Mouth” by Noisses ft Lady Leshurr and Foreign beggars which also won UK Music Video Awards best urban music video of 2012.
Recognised and endorsed by the likes of Snoop Dogg, BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra RTkal has performed alongside some of the most iconic musicians worldwide including Wu-Tang Clan, Dead Prez, Curtis Blow Tyga and as a Mud Family member, the UKs very own godfather of rap Skinny Man. Not to mention hyping up some of the biggest audiences in the world including performances at Glastonbury, Isle of White Festival, Lovebox, Outlook Festival and numerous tours with legendary sound systems Valve and Channel One.
After much success with collaboration projects RTkal is back with his first solo EP in 4 years. The sick ‘Skunk Rock Vol 1’ mixtape is now available for free download on Datpiff and to stream on soundcloud below after its long awaited release in September of this year. With songs such as “Money Shot” which was previewed on Complex and “Aint on Nun” which is currently being played on radio stations around the world RTkal is not one to be slept on.

Produced by Geeda Beatz, who has previously worked for Grammy Award winning rapper Lecrae, ThisL and Derek Minor among others, ‘Growing Up’ is a gritty, raw and uncompromising record, which sees Leon Anthony delivering an insightful, thought-provoking social commentary on inner city London youth culture, with strong support from A Star, who also delivers a compelling narrative.
On ‘Growing Up’, Leon tackles heavy issues surrounding growing up in London, life and death, spirituality and community, while striking a perfect balance between delivering a strong message and creating an infectious Hip Hop record. From its catchy chorus and piercing instrumentation, to the quick fire flow and commanding delivery from Leon and A Star, ‘Growing Up’ is a massive debut from Leon Anthony.
Speaking about the new singe, Leon states, “’Growing Up’ is to engage the youth of today and to raise funds for abandoned children in Africa. I did not have the best start in life as my best friend was murdered when I was just 16 years old. Whilst this was a traumatic experience for me, God has been able to help me overcome many obstacles like this one, motivating me to make an impact on the lives of others through music”.
