Between A3C Volume 1 and A3C Volume 2, the compilation series has been influential within the genre, serving as a barometer for what artists will become renowned staples in the ever-changing hip-hop landscape. Past compilation artists include Trinidad James, Rockie Fresh, Big K.R.I.T, Danny Brown, Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Twelvy, OCD: Moosh & Twist, Chase N. Cash, Trademark Da Skydiver, Jarren Benton, Boldy James, Curren$y, G-Eazy, Smoke DZA, Cory Gunz, 9th Wonder, XV, Da$h, and Phony Ppl, just to name a few. For this reason, last year’s compilation was praised by iTunes, as its editors raved, “the A&R rep has done a commendable job, cherry-picking some of the most promising, would-be rap stars from countless wannabes.” A3C Volume 3 will follow in its predecessor’s footsteps by once again showcasing over 50 artists on one massive compilation.
The compilation’s second single is “Band Of The Hawk” by the buzzing 22 year-old Los Angeles MC, Azizi Gibson. Azizi’s musical influences are as diverse as his upbringing and such is reflected in this single. Born in Germany as a military brat and raised between Zaire, Singapore and Maryland, Azizi moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to pursue his dream of becoming a MC. As fate would have it, Azizi would go on to meet his current label head, Flying Lotus, in a chance encounter at a local gym. After hearing Azizi’s music, Lotus immediately took Azizi in under the Brainfeeder umbrella where he would go on to release his acclaimed mixtape Ghost in the Shell. Azizi has partnered with iHipHop Distribution and A3C for the release of “Band Of The Hawk” which will be featured on A3C Volume 3. The video is directed by Keaton Brownlow and features Azizi and his crew wilding out in the dark alleyways.
A3C Volume 3 will hit digital stores worldwide on October 1, 2013 via iHipHop Distribution.
Today see’s the long awaited release from Chicago Producer Rediculus and UK based emcee Fdot1 aka Flo. We’ve been fans of both these dudes in their own right so when we heard there was a project coming from the duo we were hyped here at HHL&T.
This project came into being about 6 months ago, shortly after Rediculus’ mother passed and he was reflecting on where life was taking him. He made a bunch of beats in the weeks after that really resonated with him which he knew would be use to provide a cohesive project showing what being dedicated to the things in your life means. I reached out to FDot1 as I felt that he is the perfect MC to deliver those stories as his writing and his dedication to the culture is boundless.
For real both Rediculus and Fdot1 are truly ‘Dedicated’ to their craft as demonstrated on this joint and shows why we feature them so often here on HHL&T as this project lives up to all our expectations. ‘Dedicated’ is a 5 song EP that showcases clever wordplay spit by wordsmith Fdot1 over original boom bap influenced production provided by Rediculus.
Don’t sleep on this good Hip Hop food, go cop ‘Dedicated for just $4, yeah ya heard right $4 for that Hip Hop dopeness and Yo its the homie Rediculus’ birthday today so give him a present by getting hold of this EP.
Happy Birthday’ fam from the HHL&T team
Dropping with the EP is the video for the new single ‘Luv Ting’, a mid tempo track about the pitfalls of relationships. The video was shot and edited by Nick Guarderas.
‘Ye Fre Mi’ is the result of avid music collector, DJ and producer Richy Pitch’s two year long journey to Ghana. When Richy Pitch wants a sound he chooses perhaps the most obvious and exciting route to getting it…he travels to its source. ‘We’re Taking Over’ is one of the best tracks off of the album.
In 2006, before he released his eighth studio album, “Hip Hop is Dead,” Nas sat down with L.A.’s KDAY 93.5, where he explained the name of the project and why he believes hip hop had changed so much. Nas also reveals what he was doing before he was featured on Main Source’s “Live at the BBQ,” and shares several stories about his come up.
