The always real Emmy award-winning Oklahoma City rapper Jabee brings a powerful performance to his track ‘Tried So Hard’. From the soulful vocal sample on the Phen-produced single and the vulnerability of Jabee’ lyrics are emphasized by the haunting visuals directed by Todd Beats of a man torn to pieces by the very people he craves to please.
Jabee says the song is about “me dealing with my insecurities, my faults and how people will kick you not knowing that you are already beating yourself up inside. The video is a picture of that and how you still need to be able to smile through it all.”

‘Button Up’ is the new album from UK rapper Benny Diction and is entirely produced by South Africa’s Blue Buttonz who brings soulful, subtle production to the album which also features Scratches by DJ Sugai (Tracks 3,10,11 & 12) & DJ Rasp (Track 5) . ‘Button Up’ is released via the ever consistent independent UK label Boom Bap Professionals.
Benny explains about the album “The project came about after I dropped a verse on one of Blue’s beats for a song with mutual collaborator Gadget. In late 2013, Blue then remixed ‘Eventually’, from my ‘Life Moves’ album, and proceeded to send me between 30 and 40 beats to get busy with. I whittled these down to a select few and then what was initially going to be an EP grew into an album.”
“The title, ‘Button Up’, is symbolic of entering my thirties, accepting the responsibilities that this entails and coming to terms with the inevitable change of pace. Accordingly, I’ve (mostly) eschewed the tongue-in-cheek/braggadocio humour that many might know me for in favour of a more serious and sincere, yet optimistic, tone.”
“The guest vocalists include the likes of eMCee Killa, Granville Sessions and Elliot Fresh, who all bring their own unique style and perspective to the album and I also reached out to some dope DJs and musicians to bless some of the tracks. The subject matter ranges from storytelling (‘Growing Pains’) to political commentary (‘Back to Pangaea’) to straight spitting (‘Get Involved’)”
