Legendary Hip Hop act De La Soul are aware of the trials and tribulations of being a collective.
The long lasting group talks to VladTV exclusively about what they’ve endured, unreleased solo projects and why fans should be okay with their favorite groups pursuing solo albums.
As one of the few long lasting groups in Hip Hop history, the trio explains how elements like money, fame and sometimes women could deter some groups from sticking together. Since they’re such close friends, they believe it’s been easier for them since they weren’t brought together by a label, but their own vibes. Trugoy the Dove says they’ve experimented with solo work and only play the tracks to each other.
Maseo says they never thought about breaking up De La Soul, but pondered on ending the group all together. He also says those moments are fairly brief because another project or tour comes along that reminds them why they should stay together.
Collectively, the group believes that break ups aren’t the end of the world. While fans may view it as such, the guys say great projects have resulted from breakups. Some examples the guys list vary from Wu-Tang’s members solo projects to Q-tip’s post-Tribe Called Quest single, “Vibrant Thing.”
Speaking at the filming of his documentary ‘Under The Influence’ at the Yotube HQ in London, the godfather of UK hip hop spoke to Nick from BlatantlyBlunt about his views on a number of different issues around the homegrown scene.

Here we have for you some turntable gold recently uploaded to Rob Swift’s YouTube channel.
Rob explains “Man, as I sit hear, readying myself to head on over to watch this year’s DMC NYC regional, I can’t help but think back to some of my favorite battle DJs of all time. I have quite a few and among them would definitely have to be Mix Master Mike.”
“His aggressive yet clever approach to creating a battle routine made it hard for any competitor who drew his number in a competition. Mix Master Mike was the epitome of a Battle DJ.”

Amos – ‘Bhairava’
“The recent tragedy in Nepal saddens me. It is by far the most peaceful country I have had the privilege to visit, with some of the most gentle, selfless people I’ve met and this disaster is devastating.” – Ryan Amos
The album was recorded whilst producing Indian Ink as RamRam Ssadhu with Bambu Hands, together we chose the name Statue Stance and the name of the project was intended to be a follow up to Indian Ink entitled – Nepal: The Nomads Notepad. Entirely produced by Bambu Hands the songs I wrote were memoirs of my experiences leaving India & crossing the border into Nepal.
All proceeds from this album will be forwarded to the D.E.C please give generously during this difficult, heart wrenching time.

In early April, Kansas City’s DJ B-Stee went up against some of the country’s best DJs at the Red Bull Thre3style US Finals. The “Cutting Room” turntablist faced fierce competition from seasoned DJs such as Dynamix, Trayze, and J. Espinosa, the latter of which took the crown.
Although B-Stee didn’t win, his routine was creative and well-executed. Those who didn’t attend the battle can now watch him perform it exclusively for DJcityTV in this video.
