With the 25th Anniversary deluxe edition of ATCQ’s debut album ‘People’s Instinctive Travels’ and the ‘Paths of Rhythm’ fresh in stores, three of the legendary rap crew’s four founding members (yes, four—don’t sleep on Jarobi!) turned up to kick it with Mass Appeal.
They talked about trying to shop their demo tape at a time when labels weren’t quite ready for their fresh approach to the art form, their camaraderie with the other members of Native Tongues movement, and what’s up with those long-winded titles. Plus, in a worldwide exclusive, Phife finally reveals the identity of the real Bonita Applebum.

”A Long Hot Summer” officially came out in 2004 and now the CD reissue is being released by Below System Records. This 2015 reissue includes 2 new bonus tracks which are “Globetrotter” featuring AKD and “GMO”.
“A Long Hot Summer” is the fifth solo album of Masta Ace. The album is about Masta Ace’s journey as an underground rapper through his “Long Hot Summer” in Brooklyn, together with his unofficial manager Fats Belvedere.
This album includes fan favorites such as “Good Ol Love”, “Da Grind”, “Beautiful”, “Bklyn Masala” and guest appearances like Jean Grae, Big Noyd, Wordsworth, Edo G, The Beatnuts, Rahzel and more. With great producers like Dug Infinite, 9th Wonder, Khrysis, DJ Spinna and Marco Polo, “A Long Hot Summer” is a classic Masta Ace album.

Noisey’ friends over at HBO got a first look at the new NWA bio-pic Straight Outta Compton.
This peak at Straight Outta Compton gets me HYPED!! and also indicates that the film will do two things—humanize the West Coast rappers in the context of their rise to fame and the environment that created them, and focus on the indisputable cultural impact they had on not just America but around the globe. Here, we see the members of N.W.A. being very hands-on with this project, and not to mention Paul Giamatti in a gray wig and some bare ass at the 1:30 mark. Truly, something for everyone!
