Hip-Hop producer, Kid Called Quest (Jason Martin) is one of Rochester, New York up in coming producers. Kid Called Quest’s music speaks to a bygone era, a time when skills were more important than marketing, producing meant more than cutting & pasting, and being real was more than a catch phrase. Quest’s music captures the classic sound of hardcore East Coast hip-hop. The type of music that makes you nod your head, while speaking to your soul at the same time.
Kid Called Quest’s instrumentals have spoken to a young generation of artist that is working tirelessly to carry on the traditions of authentic hip-hop music and culture. Kid Called Quest has produced for such notable young artist such as J-Hood, Sky Zoo, and Reks. These instrumentals are much more than artful imitations of days past. His music has connected with artists who defined the east coast hip-hop scene in the late eighties and early nineties. Quest has produced and worked with legendary artist such as Craig G, Big Pooh (originally from Little brother), and Big Shug from the Gang Star Foundation; these artists have had nothing but praise for the young producer. Thus showing true talent is always recognized and supported regardless of age.
Now the Boom Bap producer Kid Called Quest decides to tackle this challenge re touching classic verses from the most visible members of the Wu (right now) Ghostface Killah and Raekwon.. Mixing drops from classic “gangsta movies” (New Jack City , and more) the classic acapellas from Rae & Ghost , new scratches , and new production we get a new product for your listening pleasure.
Kid Called Quest is getting ready to release his first solo album ‘Put Your Head Phones On’. The title of the album has a deeper meaning than most would anticipate. It is a call to experience the music on your own terms, to ignore the endless cycle of hype and gossip that consumes most young artist’s careers. Quest humbly states, “Listen to it for yourself and judge the album on your own thoughts.” So go grab your headphones and get ready to enjoy the ride.
The concept behind Hasan Salaam’s EP “Music Is My Weapon” is the belief that music can be used as a powerful tool in the pursuit of freedom, justice, and equality.
With the release of the project, Hasan is aiming to prove that music can change people’s lives, literally. All profits from the sale of the EP will be used to fund a school, clean water well, and medical clinic in Guinea-Bissau, West Africa. In November 2010, Hasan became the first U.S hip hop artist to ever perform in Bissau.
On the same trip he worked with the young artists, taught creative writing to the youth, and headlined a concert to promote freedom of speech. The “Music Is My Weapon” project is the next step, in an effort to provide change to a country that remains one of the poorest and least politically stable in the world.

Mega Ran and Boy Sand lament on inner-city teacher blues. Low standards, safety issues and teacher accountability are just a few of the issues addressed by the two former educators.. With his bruising flow over classic DJ Premier produced cuts bringing back nostalgic 90s memories, he pays tribute to the fans who have stuck with him since the beginning.
‘I.M. 4-Eva’ is Shug’s fourth solo album and his first since 2008’s Other Side of the Game – marks the next chapter in his ongoing maturation as an artist. My girl found me this on her travels through the internet. It’s basically a bunch of hip-hop’s greats and some less inspiring ‘rappers’, all grouped together like a giant rap keyboard. You click on their heads and they say little catchphrases from some of the well known masters of rap. I’ve spent all afternoon making highly obnoxious noises, and pissing my lady off. My favourite thing to do is hit as many heads as fast as I can, thus creating the worst and best rap song ever. If you feel like doing the same click the image below and see what I mean. For all those heads out there who can’t get enough of beats and instrumentals, here’s Tarik Sabar’s latest offering. Very ellectic, and original. I’ve been listening to it, sitting in the sun eating my lunch. Or as the man himself says “working the warm, moogy chops from Stevie Wonder’s brilliant August 1973 Innervisions LP”.
