London based recording artist Potent Whisper drops an exclusive audio leak of ‘One Second Chance’, feat Andrae Bentley and produced by Major Keys.
Ex brit school graduate Potent Whisper built solid momentum in 2012 with a string of single and music video releases, accompanied by features in international music publications. His previous single “The Boom Bap Bounce” ft. Rebel MC AKA Congo Natty and Nanci Correia (from the duo Nanci & Phoebe) received airplay from BBC Radio 1, clocked up over 20k views to date on YouTube and served as the official anthem for the ‘Boom Bap Festival’ 2012.
Potent now looks set to continue that trend in 2013 with the release of ‘One Second Chance’, an honest and heartfelt love song from the 23 year old rapper. Featuring a stunning chorus line courtesy of Andrea Bentley, the track demonstrates Potent’s ability to deliver impelling wordplay, and carries a heavy message which many will find relatable.
After going through 5 emails in a row of super bad music, it was very refreshing to come across Natural. This dude is real, no bling, no frills. A straight-up hip-hop kid, and ’20 Something’ is a great introduction to his album also of the same name. It’s a retrospective of his own life and upbringing, and is personal enough to keep it interesting. It’s also extremely relatable if you’re a 20 something currently moseying along the road of vagueness and ‘errrr, what do I do now?’.
I’m currently spinning his record as I type this so I’m not going to lie and pretend, and write a review of an album I haven’t finished yet. I will say though, a few songs in and I can already tell this dude is as open as they come. He is what he says, and says what he is. I’m a fan of the production and instrumentation on ‘Postcards’, and ‘Go To Work’ is my life.
Give the video a gander, then give the album a spin.
Now, now don’t you be a judgemental Judy and think that just because the production isn’t dark and brooding means that this song doesn’t have depth. Maybe, just maybe the producer, Kajmir thought ‘I’d like to give this a poppy edge, and have a nice little hook, but I still don’t let it dilute the track. You don’t have to be a serious Sally all the time”. Well, you know what? It didn’t dilute it at all, and I like the production, and I like Davie West’s MCing. It’s a pure positive song, with some really nice wordplay, and I really liked, and you should too. If you liked the production on K-Koke’s ‘Lay Down Your Weapons’ you might like this, and if you didn’t you might like too. Let your ears be the judge. I’ve only been aware of Ill Adreneline Records for a short while, but in that short space of time they’ve yet to release anything that doesn’t disappoint. ‘Yours and Mine’ from The Regiment, Confidence and DJ Technic is no exception. It’s a smooth-paced track, reminiscent of late 90’s/early 2000’s West Coast hip-hop with a definite new school vibe. It sounds like a song that should be played during a summer BBQ, although you might have to wait a few months to actually put that into practice; but you can still listen and pretend it’s sunshine outside.
