Some healthy offerings from a few of UK’s finest, courtesy of Caxton Press Records, in the form of Deadman Walkn and Blitz/Rebel Eye (Mix and mastered by Keenan Bailey & Steven Lewis). ‘2Real4Retail’ is 16 tracks of pure UK hip-hop (give or take a skit or two). I know that’s an overused statement in music; you can pretty much put the name of a country infront of a genre and bam there you go. However there is a reason that phrase is used in this case, and it’s because it’s got the lyrical content and production you’d expect from an underground hip-hop record. Grim, yet revolutionary lyrics, with that classic British sense of dark realism and humour, with a good amount of sarcasm. Coupled with slightly off key, cut and sample heavy beats that isn’t scared to use guitar or classic breaks, all with an obvious self-awareness. If that sounds like I’m being a fangirl over UKHH and overhyping it, sorry fam this is my homeland I can’t help the bias.

I wasn’t a huge fan of this beat initially, but after a good listen through, Eamz style has grown on him. He admits that hasn’t been making beats for very long, but I have to give it to the guy, and say that this may only be a new offering, but it is still really well made. It’s a short atmospheric, ever so slightly foreboding joint, with vocal samples from Little Dragon.

Another new released from Detroit MC, Brandon Lockheart. If you’ve got a good memory then you’ll remember we promoted him last summer, and his last track. Well this is another chapter to his story after recently joining the Air Force, and ‘Articulations of the Michigander’ picks up where he last left off, adding more details about his journey from his past to his new path in the USAF.
This has a real heavy old school and/or 90’s vibe to it, and if you’re a fan of The Pharcyde, Jil Scott and Common then you might just be a fan.

International Maverick is a rapper and producer from Chicago, and even though he’s still only young, he has a lot of potential and crafted style. He’s a good storyteller, and I’s be interested to hear what his new EP ‘Dream Catcher’ will sound like when he releases it in the near future. He was nominated as the 2012 underground hip hop blog artist of the year via

After months of releasing material from the ‘Pay Day Series’ every 1st and 15th of each month, Swerve and SYG have now dropped the official Pay Day EP all in one format, and as ‘Name Your Price’. If you’ve been following this series with us you’ll know that these guys have been firm favourites over here at HHLAT, and yes we believed the hype, and loyally posted all their series material. See what happens when you make good music, and are generally nice people too? A million screaming fans, and a giant car made of diamonds homie. Well, maybe not in that order, but you do get our backing, and that’s worth at least £20(00000000).
Anyway, this EP will have something for pretty much everyone, but particularly if you’e fans of Macklemore, Murs and Blue Scholars. Although if you’re not a fan of any of those artists, then I strongly suggest you still take a listen as this a really diverse mix of hip-hop, mixing a whole bunch of elements and ideas, some obvious, and some not and coming out with something very original.

‘Burger Kung’ is not only a super funny name for a tape, it’s also a super fun album. It had me doing a little dance in my bedroom whilst listening to it, and that can only be a good thing. It has some delicious cuts, and some really well-thought techniques and samples, paired with some very talented MCs. They all bring something original and help to really diversify the album’s content. Kung Lao was recently signed to Canadian label Legendary Entertainment, and I’m not surprised. Dude has a lot of skill and style, and blended the mix of old and new school perfectly.
Featuring the vocal talents of Canadian rappers, Doc Marco & Drifter, Perfect Color Combination, Anubis 5, Dylusion, Blackout Music, and Hobs Sputnik.
Marco Polo, Talib Kweli and DJ Premier have teamed up together to release the super heartfelt tribute to their friend, and hip-hop legend, Guru. Just like the late great man himself, the track is classic hip-hop, and makes you want to listen to it instantly after it’s finished. Whether you were a fan of Guru, or you’ve lost a friend or loved one, I think you’ll feel this song.
Tomorrow is the third anniversary of his untimely death, and this serves as a perfect reminder of his influence and legacy. The track is also from Marco Polo’s forthcoming LP, ‘PA2: The Director’s Cut’, which will be released in July 2013 on SoulSpazm Records.
