After a pretty impressive 2014 High Focus Records seem to be continuing the pace in to the new year, and their latest release comes courtesy of new signing Onoe Caponoe, with his latest album ‘Voices From Planet Cattele’.
For those unfamiliar with Onoe and his, shall we say, different approach to the music…. ‘Onoe Caponoe, the Lord Catpissdelic myth is a earthly being possessed by the ghost of Jim Willow the Wizard. A Funkadelic sperm from the sexual organs of the 169 world Onoe Caponoe uses alien technology to record vocal crystals telepathically transmitted by his thoughts’ according to his press release!
This may give you an idea of the vibe that Onoe brings to his music, wildly imaginative, vivid imagery coupled with a tounge in cheek humour and Brothers Grimm style stories.
Entirely produced by Chemo, widely regarded as one of the best producers in the UK, the album owes as much to the psychedelic rock of the 60s and 70s, (with its tales of heroes, dragons, elves and other LSD inspired madness) as it does to Hip Hop. Onoe creates whole worlds, populated by his strange characters, and draws you in to them, all the while keeping one foot (or possibly just one toe) in the real world which he also inhabits (a prime example of this is the simple story of a weed dealer not showing up, ‘Disappearing Jakob’).
The album is best consumed with an open mind and some kind of intoxicating substance, and is suitable for summer days blazing in the garden or 4am post rave twistedness. Its hard to pick favourite tracks as the album works best when enjoyed as a whole, but ‘Goth Bitches’ featuring Jhest is one of the more coherent stand alone tracks, along with the first single ‘Space Bitches’
A truly unique artist who does exactly as he pleases, I am looking forward to seeing the progression of Onoe Caponoe, and what he can achieve with the High Focus camp.
Words; Chris

Dun, dun, duuuuun. Yes you lucky lot, it’s finally here. The Hip Hop Life and Times Podcast has returned for a second go around. To educate you all on the ills of your life, explain the real reasons behind why your mum is disappointed in your career choice, and why leaving negative comments on Youtube videos makes you look like a right tuna melt.
As well as all that we review recent albums from Twizzy, Shakezpeare, Jam Baxter and Big Dutty Deeze, and play you a few of their tracks as well as a few extras from Ruthless, Bambu and Atmosphere for good measure.
This being our first proper go at getting the podcast back up to a regular routine of episodes, things aren’t polished and squeaky clean for this pilot. Unfortunately the sound isn’t as loud as it should be, but that’ll be sorted out on the forthcoming podcasts. Aside from that, we hope that you enjoy this and with any luck we’ll be back to you in about two weeks, with better sound, more music, interviews, news and all that good stuff that makes you all so happy. So happy mate. Now get out of bed, there’s coffee that needs drinking.
