‘The Sinking’ LP is the latest release from Conscious Route (CCF/SOS) who teams up with producer Sean El (United Front). The pair teamed up after meeting at a Soul Mischief gig back in 2012 and since then have strengthened their link by collaborating on tracks over the last year, most of which are included as the back-bone of this release. Eighteen tracks of deep, the long player is a brilliant collection of Boom Bap fused beats complimented with a feast of conscious flows and controversial punch-lines. It’s no wonder they’ve got the Internet going nuts with a string of solid reviews on leading Hip-Hop blogs.
The album has a host of features, including Wolverhampton’s Big Dutty Deeze, Cambridge’s Dillah from B-illa, Edinburgh’s Werd & Jordan Butler (SOS), Blasfima Sinna, London-based singer Anna Fontana and many more. With Sean El also dropping in on the raps, this diverse LP was mostly spot-written, apart from four tracks, with the recording of the beats and raps all completed in just a five hour period! With a very diverse beat selection there seems to be something included here for every kind of Hip-Hop head, even turning the ears of Hip-Hop non-believers and haters to maybe even liking a track or two! Basically, this is a must listen!

Styles P is one of the hardest emcees to ever to touch a microphone, a founding member of The LOX / D-Block and, in recent years, one of hip-hop’s most prolific solo artists. Scram Jones is a Grammy-nominated producer who has worked with the likes of Mariah Carey, Fat Joe, Lloyd Banks, Dipset, Raekwon, The Clipse, and many more. Now, Styles and Scram are joining forces for the new album Float, to be released on the newly relaunched High Times Records just in time for 4/20.
Unlike some collaborations these days, Float came about naturally. “I had sent a beat that Styles liked, and he came through to my studio to finish it,” explains Scram. “He ended up jumping on four other beats that days and another four the next day. After eight records, High Times reached out about putting out a project.” While both artists have had extensive careers, releasing an album with High Times holds special significance. “It’s definitely an honor for two hip-hop stoners,” says Scram. “High Times is a world famous brand and crosses all cultures and genres of music.”
As for the music, fans already know what to expect from these two artists. “Incredible lyrics and incredible beats,” says Styles. With guest appearances from Jadakiss, Sheek Louch, N.O.R.E., and Raekwon, it’s also an unapologetically East Coast affair. As Scram puts it: “The whole project is some classic New York hip hop.”
Tracklist:
01. Float Intro
02. Manson Murder (ft. N.O.R.E.)
03. Bodies In The Basement
04. Hater Love (ft. Sheek Louch)
05. Take It Back
06. Haze Vs. Sour Skit
07. I Need Weed
08. Red Eye (ft. Jadakiss)
09. Reckless (ft. Raekwon)
10. Shoot You Down
11. Open Up (ft. Bullpen)
12. Screw Y’all (Scram Jones)
First and foremost, if you’re looking for a ‘Sloshpots EP’ mark 2 then you’ve come to the wrong place. In the same way, if you’re looking for a sequel to ‘Constant Dikestar’ then again, this isn’t that record so don’t be getting your knickers in a twist.
I had a bit of a love-hate relationship with ‘Sloshpots’; it was an angry and passionate release, but with just a little bit too much misogyny in it. On one hand I understood that the dude had obviously had a bad break-up and wanted to vent, which anyone can emphasise with. On the other ‘Fuckpig Sloshpots’ was pretty much a giant track all about chauvinism. I’ve been a big fan of Dike for a few years, and I was a bit disappointed after that EP, so when I first listened to ‘Return Of The Twat’ I was a little apprehensive.
What’s that saying about expect to be disappointed, and you’ll be pleasantly surprised? Oh blahblah some guy that a million people quote on their Facebook feed probably. Anyway, who cares? The point is I was really impressed with Dike’s full-length. Straightaway it’s obvious that he’s straightened a few bits out, and smoothed the edges of his last release. I’m not going to patronise you, and say he’s ‘matured’ or ‘grown up’. No, but he’s definitely sharpened up his craft a lot, and this is an album that’s obviously written by a rapper that knows his style.
He’s upped his game on this record, and if I was to show someone who’s never listened to him, I’d show them this.
‘He’s Getting Judged Like An Idiot’ featuring Ronnie Bosh is a perfect starter, and I’m really glad the two joined up on more songs, as both their vocal styles work really well together. It gives you a nice intro to the rest of the album, and sets a good tone for the rest of the record.
Without doubt, the standout songs are ‘Rapping Over Silence’ which features Dabbla and DJ Manipulate, and shows off Dike’s flow and wordplay so well, it became my very favourite as soon as I heard it. The theme is pretty much directed at battle rappers who can’t actually rap. If he had written weak rhymes on this one, it would’ve shown up a lot more, but both him and Dabbla completely kill it. ‘New Street’ is a very dark song and Dike addresses the subject matter of this one with the same sense of stark realism, and completely non-apologetic approach he does on all his other songs, which is something I can really respect. It’s a short one, at less than two minutes but still one of the record’s best. Now if I didn’t include ‘Future Posse Cut One Thousand’ I would pretty much be an idiot. It’s a straight crew track featuring Stig Of The Dump, Dr Syntax, BVA, Datkid, Verb T, Jam Baxter, Ed Scissortongue, Mr Key, Fliptrix and Leaf dog, and the best way I can really describe it is, it’s fucking rad. Every MC on this track stands out in his own right, and the production on it is ridiculous. It’s a pretty long song, but honestly I didn’t notice the length of minutes until I checked later. It’s the perfect way to end the album, and gives it a proper finisher.
No I didn’t do a wrong song run down, because it’s an album and you need a few surprises in your little lives. I will say though, this is Dirty Dike at some of his best, and if some of his last releases put you off, or you haven’t been a fan before than I suggest you give him a second chance with this full-length.
Dike’s currently on tour, to check if he’s coming anywhere near you have a gander at the poster below.

Lost Alliance are Wolverhampton rappers & producers Hot Rox and Pact Prolific. Their first release was a self-titled EP in 2010 which was followed up by ‘The Second Coming’ a year later. This EP had music videos for the tracks ‘Spotlight’ and ‘In My Mind’, two tracks that still rock the spot at even now at live shows. In May 2012 they where involved in the collaborative EP ‘Business Amongst Men’ with fellow Wolverhampton recording artist Charlie Bwoy H which again was well received by Hip-Hop fans. Lost Alliance are true to the essence of real Hip-Hop with a trademark Boom-Bap sound and raw but conscious lyrics.
In the summer of 2012 Hot Rox & Pact hooked up with UK Runnings mixtape deejay & producer Tricksta, to discuss plans for their new album. This was the start of a connection that led to Lost Alliance being booked for Tricksta’s Hip-Hop events Beats & Bars and Live & Direct where Lost Alliance shared stages with the likes of Rodney P, Blak Twang, Mystro, Ty, Moorish Delta 7, Iron Braydz, Genesis Elijah, AC, Big Dutty Deeze, FDot1 and many more. Tricksta also got chosen as the official mixtape deejay to host & mix ‘Dare 2 Win’ which came out through UK Runnings in March, as well as Tricksta being commissioned to mix and master the Lost Alliance debut album ‘Life Cycle’.
Lost Alliance have been making noise on the internet two with exclusive freestyles/performances for Chromosome Live Lab, Urban Vibe UK, Big Fingz TV and B-iLLA TV, as well as featuring on over fifty of the leading UK blogs and having a strong local fan base. Now as they drop their debut album ‘Life Cycle’ the future looks so bright with performances planned this summer in Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Leamington Spa, Luton, London and more. Expect big things from this talented duo…

Firstly, thank-you to Pair-A-Dyce, Rediculus from Knowledge Giving Birth Productions, and of course our boy Tricksta from Park Street PR for hooking us all up in the first place.
Alright, so I don’t usually use the word ‘crossover’ much. I mean, yes I have alluded to records or artists having crossover status before, and I have basically called an artist every other word but that, whilst still pretty much meaning it. However, I try my best to not to use it too much, or at least dress it up in flowery sentences, just so I don’t run the risk of overusing it. Otherwise, pretty soon the word would lose all meaning, and my huge fan base may abandon me for greener pastures. On this occasion however, I’m going to use the word crossover, because that’s the first word that came to mine when I finished listening to Pair-A-Dyce’s new record ‘The Chronicles Of Dyce’. If you’re a backpacker with giant headphones, and still in denial over the fact that the 90’s and early 2000’s have ended, then you’ll enjoy this. In the same way, if you’re a bit of a dummy, and think nursery rhymes make perfectly acceptable rap songs, then you’ll enjoy this too. How so I hear you ask? Well, let me explain. For all of us in between, to the side, or on a completely different tip, you’ll like this if you’re a fan of hip-hop that still retains its DIY style, yet has space for some really catchy hooks. Simply put, it’ a fun record. It’s fun enough for the aforementioned dummies to not immediately realise they’re being educated, well until they’ve discovered they’ve learnt 7 new words and it’s too late. On the complete flipside, Pair-A-Dyce has the content and intelligence that will keep any real hip-hop fan happy too (that’s right, I said real, and what?).
The more you listen to it, the more extra parts, or little tweaks in sound and style you hear. The production is handled by a group of different heads, Rediculus, Glasshouse Productions, Kayser9Soze, and Irish Moss. This of courses adds to the diversity of the record, and whilst some of the producers may be on the more ‘classic hip-hop’ side of things, the other half display more leftfield ideas and beats. I really enjoyed the different ideas and approaches that the 5 individual teams came up with. It gave the album an overall feel of variation and experimentation.
Coming back to the rapper himself. Pair is a very good storyteller, and his very matter-of-fact style of subject analyse was a nice surprise. He managed to discuss, and touch upon some pretty heavy, and weighty subject matter with the same manner of some of his lighter songs-which I thought was pretty impressive. The energy of the record as a whole is very light (which is why it might appeal to the ones previously mentioned, that aren’t interested in actual words, rather just beats and melodies), and it might rake some listens through until you really think about some of the content he’s rapping about.
In a way I think ‘Chronicles..’ could help take us back a few years, to when hip-hop on the mainstream radio was also the same as what was being played on the pirate stations too. I’m not saying he’s going to start a musical revolution tomorrow, but it’s poppy enough to appeal to a wider demographic, but smart enough not to sell out.
I’d say that was a good line to leave it on, so I’ll say go cop this album. Not just because we’re the official British sponsors, or that Knowledge Giving Birth Productions is a rad company. No, because if it was bad, we wouldn’t be reviewing it or stamping our big ol’ name across the cover either. We stand behind everything we support, and this is no exception.
