Today, Allhiphop.com premiered the new video (and title track), “The Problem,” from 7evenThirty’s recently released album The Problem.
“The Problem” was written prior to Ferguson and edited during the peak of protests in Missouri and speaks to the continuing problem facing so many American communities even in 2014 “F*ck is these police on/theme song must be who shot ya/playing victim what you want a Oscar/grant me a pass Mr. Officer/I’m face down in the mainstream why you pull the trigger to my back/the problem is that the problem ain’t rap/can you help me articulate that.”
“The Problem” is SP1200 Jedi Gensu Dean’s first foray into live instrumentation and he sets a perfect canvas for 7evenThirty to espouse on police brutality, stand your ground, gentrification and mainstream media’s coverage of Hip-Hop; turning “The Problem” into a news crawl of current events “And they claiming stand your ground/when you ain’t never had no ground/to stand on/ cause the place you call home they can come and tear that down/and quick to put some nice shit and raise the prices and make it where you can’t afford/they wanna make it like they discovered your shit/ain’t that some hoe shit boy.”

A trio of rugged rhymers: Sean Price, the Brooklyn-bred lyricist that’s quick to knock your block off Jailhouse Rock style; Diabolic, the aggressive Suffolk County rhyme sayer that spits with reckless abandon; and Vinnie Paz, the misanthropic Philly native who stays ready for battle, all make up the foundation for “Game Time,” the latest release from Diabolic’s forthcoming ‘Fightin Words’ LP, that’s set to drop 16/09.
Although Diabolic might not be a household name just yet, his accolades are worth mentioning: earning a spot on Billboard’s Hip Hop and R&B charts, as well as receiving the HHUG Best Album of the Year Award with his debut ‘LP, Liar & a Thief,’ are quite the accomplishments. Over a slick cut from the Brooklyn beat-smith, 5th Seal, who manages to squeeze everybody from Das EFX to the late Guru in this Premier’esque scratch hook, “Game Time” takes things back to the time where lyrics were valued over everything. Pre-orders for ‘Fightin Words’ are now available through iTunes via digital download, or Fat Beats on either CD or 2xLP.

L’Orange unveils visuals from director EmaLee Arroyo for “Need You” featuring Blu. The track waltzes casually between swing era production allusions and underground head nodding flow. Add to it a post-apocalyptic Adam & Eve story shot in the texture rich Rustic Canyon of California among abandoned bomb shelters, water storage tanks, and bunkers. The scrawl of urban decay washes over everything in this video of love & destruction.
