You know, sometimes between our never ending riotous lives of eating fried chicken, drinking too much cheap beer and saying sleazy things to unsuspecting women (errr actually I think you’ll find it’s called ‘charming’, and I guess I’m not really talking about Stix, Adam or Tricks oh well the first step is acceptance) we mange to miss out painfully obvious releases. I do suppose one of us just assumes one of the other 3 has done it. This I’m afraid kids, has happened in regards to Big Dutty Deeze’s latest album ‘Live Evil’. He dropped it a good ten days ago, and we dropped the fucking ball.

Well you’ll just have to forgive us this one time.
Over the last 12 months Deeze are really honed not only his style and content, but also the direction of his rage and anger. That’s a really important point that shouldn’t be overlooked. Yeah, yeah everyone’s angry and everyone’s upset about something but if its directionless and without resolve then you just sound like another whinny bedroom rapper. Sorry fam, but if your best mate wasn’t going to tell you then we’re here to. Go read a book or two, have yourself a nice cup of tea and try again.
Talking of content, the subject matter in this record is all over the place! Although when I say that I don’t mean in the sloppy too many cooks spoiled the broth sense. It’s a multi-layered record, and Deeze gives each song its own individual stamp that doesn’t just disappear in the ether of fillers. It’s big enough that whether you’re a long time fan, and want a little something something that won’t make you embarrassed to tell people he’s still your favourite rapper, or if you’ve just hopped on the bandwagon then this is a really satisfying album. Satisfying like a big roast dinner.
Another key pointer from this is the real obvious influence that Tupac and other similarly seminal rappers have had on him. The production by Dr-G is on fucking point throughout, and I really think without his expertise the record as a whole would not shine as strong. They both make a great team.
I suppose I’m being a little (a lot bias) because Tupac’s my favourite rapper, but then again you know fully well that we’re fans of Deeze in the HHLAT manor so this write up was never going to be anything less than positive. Surprise!
Anyway, I didn’t know I was going to throw out a mini review for this I guess I just like talking.

Madlib’s whole life revolves around music. His 4 tonne record library spans countless genres, with his symphonies including one-man jazz séances, sweltering reggae and Brazilian mixes, attic-creaking instrumental hip-hop, and collaborations with acts like J Dilla and Erykah Badu.

Madlib has been a man of many aliases having begun his music career in the early 1990’s. Releasing his first proper album as Madlib in 2002, he set himself apart with his future thinking and individual approach to production. A year later he teamed up with the late hip hop producer J Dilla, cementing the duo’s project Jaylib to wide acclaim. During this period Madlib also collaborated with a myriad other world renowned hip hop artists including Mos Def, De La Soul, Ghostface Killah and Talib Kweli. In 2004 he partnered up with DOOM to record ‘Madvillainy’ making for one hip hop’s most influential albums of recent years. Madlib ranks among the most influential artists of his generation. Odd Future, Flying Lotus, Four Tet and Thom Yorke have all borrowed from the Beat Konducta; even Kanye West once trekked to Highland Park to meet with Madlib in his Masonic temple-turned-studio.
JEREMIAH JAE is a Chicago based emcee, producer, healer, and artist on Flying Lotus’ record label Brainfeeder. He is also a member of the group YBP (Young Black Preachers), and apart of the Black Jungle Squad Cxllective.
Jae’s orbited around the vibrant LA beat scene for ages. After meeting FlyLo online years ago, he decamped to the West Coast for a good six months and soaked up the mind-expanding sounds emanating from the venerable imprint. Soon he got signed, and after exploring soundscapes around the globe with labelmate Teebs, Jae finally abandoned Chi-town to make weird art-rap in LA full time .

The London producer is set for big things, as 2014 already sees him gaining major interest from the likes of FACT Magazine, Dummy, RA and XLR8R.

I always find it funny when people who have idea about hip-hop generally believe it’s nothing deeper than the superficial plastic rap they see on no-name TV station. Yes a large part of it is full of braggadocio (and I’m not even being critical of that if done well), but these are usually the same people don’t listen to the contents, or believe a track like this would even exist. This song is for those of you that are tired of having to defend the culture. It’d been on repeat for the last ten minutes. Looking forward to the visual for this song.

My good buddy and flatmate just did a little dance when I put this track on. I knew I enjoyed this before he started the dance, but it definitely solidified my feelings. Tricksta once said to me “you’re a big East Coast fan right?’. Is it that obvious? Who knows, but if the shoe fits eh?
