Millennium Jazz is proud to present another Jazz Jousters compilation, their 26th in the series of jazz inspired hip hop beats from likeminded producers from around the globe.
Whilst debating the next project members of the collective repeatedly came up with the name ‘Cal Tjader’, born Callen Radcliffe Tjader Jr. in St Louis, Missouri, USA in 1925. Tjader was best known as a Latin Jazz musician as well as for being skilled in other areas of jazz via the Piano, as a percussionist, or mostly on his main instrument, the Vibraphone. His career spanned over forty years in music.
This compilation is another 100% instrumental compilation based on some of Tjader’s enormous archive. This album features the works of RickMal, Bones The Beat Head, Jazz Kat, Pawcut, Gadget, FloFliz , SmokedBeat, Stay Classy, Mr. Moods, Slim The Chemist, Oldy Clap Recordz and newcomer Scaley WaleZ.

West London’s Apex Zero has recently released his album ‘Reality Provoking Liberation’. One half of the city’s First and Last duo, he’s released a series of mixtapes and was a regular performer at the renowned End of the Weak / Speakers Corner nights, performing at the EOW World Finals in Berlin in 2010.
Citing influences which include Wu Tang, Immortal Technique, Pharoahe Monch, Skinnyman and Klashnekoff, he’s studied some of the best in the business to develop his own identity and style, and has become one of the most impressive new figures on the scene today.
Mic Crenshaw and Dead Prez debuted their collaboration ‘Superheroes’ this past spring, hitting #2 on rapattacklives single charts. Now they return with a powerful music video to go with it. Directed and produced by Payam Sadri and Kevin Hasenkopf of Salmon 109, the video speaks to the true everyday “Superheroes” that support their families, guiding them to help tackle the current and future problems facing the planet.
Mic Crenshaw, born in South Chicago, is one of the definitive Hip Hop Artists to grace the Northwest. Crenshaw spent his formative years battling the emergence of white supremacist gangs in the streets of Minneapolis. Now as a musician, he uses his music, time and resources to help inspire others to take positive paths in their lives.
Crenshaw’s non-profit; Global Fam has help to setup and support a computer center in Burundi, central Africa. Over the past six-years, the center has educated over 800 locals with computer skills. Burundi shares a history and border with Rwanda, and is one of the fifth poorest countries in the world. The center is now thriving, and is expanding both in size and services.

Pencils Not Pistols is the brand new E.P. from UK duo Imperial and K.I.N.E.T.I.K. This unlikely duo linked up in late 2012 after Imperial sent K.I.N.E.T.I.K. a polite email requesting to collaborate. After being impressed with the spelling, grammar and attached beat in the email, K.I.N.E.T.I.K. jumped at the chance to work on some music with this courteous chap.
What initially began as a track for Imperial’s yet to be released solo album, slowly morphed into a collaborative project, which once again utilizes the tried and tested formula of one producer and one emcee. Following copious amounts of parma ham and pavlova, the two discovered that they not only share a similar outlook on music but on life itself. This mutual foresight enabled them to craft seven interlinked songs that all touch on different subjects in an honest yet humorous manner. Most importantly, the project reinforces the divine duality of the human experience, even in the midst of the laughs and giggles contained throughout.
The sample-based production on Pencils Not Pistols united both Imperial and K.I.N.E.T.I.K. in their love for that strong tradition in Hip Hop. The duo pay homage with their artwork; as it is a parody of Biz Markie’s album, I Need A Haircut. As you might know, that was the album that changed music sampling law forever. Gilbert O’Sullivan… we see you. Sigh.
Future plans include a limited edition album of Pencils Not Pistols on vinyl with official merchandise. All funding will be generated by fan support.
