Marquette “Rai L” Sutton, is a recording artist, songwriter, producer and rapper. He was born in Washington, D.C. and was raised in the P.G. County-area in Maryland.
He became known for producing street-singles for artists such as “A-Mafia – Get Money Stay True ft. Papoose” and “JR Writer – I’m Alive”.
Rai L has released his debut mixtape “Before Night Falls” showing great feedback without paid promotion. He received advice on the “rap game” and feedback on the mixtape from super producer Nottz’s manager, Darryl Sloan. He considers Universal’s AraabMuzik his very first industry mentor.
This album is the first collection to ever feature a cast of hip hop artists who are all members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), or often referred to as Mormons. Each artist brings their unique life experiences and musical style to this project, yet all of the artists featured on this album are active members of the Church and have a testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The album contains a wide range of hip hop styles but all of the songs include the values and morals common to members of the LDS faith.
Now personally I’m not a religious person, however this is still a great listen and well worth checking out. You can stream and download it here
Following the success of his ‘Degenerate Art’ and ‘A Life In A Way’ EP’s this Summer, Norwich up-and-comer Paper Plates returns with two new tracks.
‘I Don’t Care’ Is the first single from his upcoming ‘Bachelor Of Arts’ EP with Toronto-based producer Jay Bee (of genre-defying collective Grand Unified). The project is themed around the experience of graduating university and what follows. “It questions what I’m suppose to do now,” explains Paper Plates. “Not being able to put all my eggs in one basket with music but at the same time not passionate about anything else.” The first single sets this off well, with it’s lifting off-beat instrumental reflecting the change in the up-and-comers lifestyle as he emerges from student life.
The second track ‘Starter For Ten’, is a loose track that sees Paper Plates spitting raw bars over a hard hitting beat from USA rapper/producer AJ Suede.
Look out for more from Papes in the coming months, with ‘Bachelor Of Arts’ on the way, as well as visuals from ‘Degenerate Art’ still to be revealed and a collaborative EP with another of the UK’s most exciting up-and-coming MC’s…
