Cee, is an emcee from Australia living in Canada, The Movement Fam’s Cee (MC/manager) and Alaiz’s Dr. MaD (producer/DJ) have an interesting story. They worked together via a chain of connections beginning with KevinNottingham.com back in 2009, without ever actually speaking. But when Cee moved to Montreal in 2012, the two finally connected in person. MaD made some beats with Cee in mind, and what was supposed to be just a brief collab quickly escalated into a full-scale EP entitled ‘Steps To The Peak’.
This project is an eight track love letter to the city of Montreal. It was entirely written, produced, recorded, shot and designed in the 514, with the exception of Notion’s mixing and mastering in Toronto. Dr. MaD’s production is enveloped in the art of sampling, with old Soul and Jazz tunes brought to life by his deft chops, dipping them in Hip Hop on the way out. Cee used this sonic landscape to tell real life stories about his experiences in Canada – leaving his home country of Australia to pursue a dream in the great wide north, the tumultuous move to Montreal, dealings with immigration, and his regular battles with fear, doubt and negative energy. Ultimately, it’s a story of two artists connecting through the love of music in order to express their ‘amour’ for the city, the country and the culture of Hip Hop.
‘Steps To The Peak’ is available for FREE download via Cee’s Bandcamp page below after dropping on Friday September 13th 2013

Between A3C Volume 1 and A3C Volume 2, the compilation series has been influential within the genre, serving as a barometer for what artists will become renowned staples in the ever-changing hip-hop landscape. Past compilation artists include Trinidad James, Rockie Fresh, Big K.R.I.T, Danny Brown, Freddie Gibbs, Action Bronson, Ab-Soul, A$AP Rocky, A$AP Twelvy, OCD: Moosh & Twist, Chase N. Cash, Trademark Da Skydiver, Jarren Benton, Boldy James, Curren$y, G-Eazy, Smoke DZA, Cory Gunz, 9th Wonder, XV, Da$h, and Phony Ppl, just to name a few. For this reason, last year’s compilation was praised by iTunes, as its editors raved, “the A&R rep has done a commendable job, cherry-picking some of the most promising, would-be rap stars from countless wannabes.” A3C Volume 3 will follow in its predecessor’s footsteps by once again showcasing over 50 artists on one massive compilation.
The compilation’s second single is “Band Of The Hawk” by the buzzing 22 year-old Los Angeles MC, Azizi Gibson. Azizi’s musical influences are as diverse as his upbringing and such is reflected in this single. Born in Germany as a military brat and raised between Zaire, Singapore and Maryland, Azizi moved to Los Angeles in 2010 to pursue his dream of becoming a MC. As fate would have it, Azizi would go on to meet his current label head, Flying Lotus, in a chance encounter at a local gym. After hearing Azizi’s music, Lotus immediately took Azizi in under the Brainfeeder umbrella where he would go on to release his acclaimed mixtape Ghost in the Shell. Azizi has partnered with iHipHop Distribution and A3C for the release of “Band Of The Hawk” which will be featured on A3C Volume 3. The video is directed by Keaton Brownlow and features Azizi and his crew wilding out in the dark alleyways.
A3C Volume 3 will hit digital stores worldwide on October 1, 2013 via iHipHop Distribution.
