m.a.double is the first writer/director to première a film, in the history of the Cannes Film Festival, who has shot his film while on bail. Instead of glorifying that fact, he wants to express in general how it’s not cool to get involved in crime. Speaking on it, he says: “You could be out there making a load of money, but I’ve seen it before that when the law clamps down on you, all the money goes away, all the laughter stops and you’ll wish you could turn back time.”
m.a. was on bail and under surveillance for 16 months while the force built up their case against him for a crime they alleged that he committed. He added “The agreed facts between the prosecution and the defence were that a parcel containing a kilo of cocaine came into the country, the text messages and call records in my phone showed that I had knowledge of the parcel coming in.” m.a was arrested when he turned up at the parcel depot to pick up the parcel, m.a.double shouted “no comment” to his co-defendant at the time of their arrest and was uncooperative in interview.
He knew he was innocent of being knowingly concerned in the importation of cocaine, but m.a also knew how ugly the situation looked; and even with the crazy state of mind the whole situation put himself in, along with the fact the star of the film Remaine Dixon was stabbed a week before the shoot and had to have two major operations, they were still able to have a successful shoot. m.a was later found not guilty after a five day trial.
(Last day of court when m.a.double beat his case!)
m.a.double was finally able to move on to focus on getting his film to Cannes. See the trailer for “Ready 4 Whatever” here
