Trek Life is a rapper that I honestly can’t recommend to you enough. I first discovered him in 2010 when he released ‘Everything Changed Nothing’, and have been a fully-paid up member of his fanclub (metaphorically speaking of course, although a rap fanclub would be kind of cool). That record was an album full of only gems, and no fillers. Three years later, and he’s back to drop his third official album ‘Hometown Foreigner’, a record I, and a lot of others have been waiting for a long time. Just like his previous material, the Californian shows his Westcoast roots proudly, and you can tell it’s from the sunshine state (is that what it’s called? I’m British, everything’s a sunshine state compared to us). His lines are clever and well thought out, and mix well with his soft-spoken, but assertive flow. Duke Westlake produces the entire project, and he really steps up his game on the boards for this one.
I haven’t given a good proper spin yet, but from my initial listen, this is another banger from our man. I was also happy to see Trek Life teaming up with Oddisee again, a killer combination for sure. If you’re a fan of Fashawn, Murs and Evidence then don’t sleep on Trek Life.
