Look at me, posting beat tapes every other day like my life depended on it. Seriously though, if you’d told me I’d actually listen to a whole record of pure beats, only 12 months ago I would’ve said you were speaking lies, and a pox on your house!
Sure enough though here I am about to tell you all about the benefits of downloading London beat maker, Orion’s newest offering Alphas will bring to your sad, drape life. I kid, I’m sure you’re very happy, but that aside this record is very good and I wasn’t kidding about the benefits of copping it. It’s an extremely eclectic (I love using that word right?) record, and I’m a big fan of Orion’s use of wind instruments in his songs. It gives the album a fresh feel, and reminds me of the early beat makers of many a moon ago. Even though the album has a lot of little surprises, and some unexpected joints to it you can definitely hear his own signature stamp. For a UK artist, he doesn’t stick to a particular style that a lot of other producers do when it comes to their geography, and he borrows a lot from obvious continental and U.S producers and DJs, which is far from bite, and more of a healthy nod for their inspiration.
My final thought on the whole record is, if you’re an MC you should hit up Orion and see what plans you can make; it would be nice to hear the right rapper on a few of his tracks.
For fans of Develop, Dan Angell and 7L.
