Baltimore MC has been through it all, and even though he’s still only young he’s already had to fight and beat cancer. Whilst recovering from his life-saving preventive surgery he decided to record a free tribute album entitled ‘Jackin’ Jil’ using beats from her previous releases. ‘Golden Lady’ a classic fan song, written about his love for Jil Scott and the positive effect her music has had on him, whether that was mashing through a bad job he hated, or celebrating more positive aspects of his day to day. I’m a fan of Jil Scott, so I was pretty much already convinced, but Substantial is a gifted MC and writer and his deep flow gives him a nice edge, and works well with Steph’s relaxed and smooth vocals. The album isn’t out yet, but you can pick up this for free and his latest release ‘Home Is Where The Art Is’ by following the links below.
