Azariah & Kidd Called Quest – Young, Black, And Gifted : Long Time Coming
Some things just naturally go together, peanut butter & jelly, hot dogs & mustard , Guru & Primo, Termanology & Statik Selektah , and of course Azariah & Kidd Called Quest..,
These two always come together on some straight hip hop ish , as they both compliment each other, Quest’s Boom Bap, & AZ’s quirky rhyme style go hand in glove . Quest pulls some of his best production using a lot of drum loops and some 70’s 80’s samples here along with drops from some of his favorite black movies . Azariah sounds ready to take on any challenger but breaks down his life ( Memories Of A Youngsta) , knowledge ( Listen To My Words , Act Out), and just generally rhyming ( Raw Rap, Down, Get It In) , no trapping & tales of money stacked to the ceiling here , just good mc’ing as Azariah just spits what’s on his mind on Jay Quest’s sonic landscape. Also included is Kidd Called Quest’s remix of the Rashad & Confidence’s ” The City” which I thought was dope and a good “part 2” to a already tight ass track. Fans of club rap & radio type hip hop might pass this up , but real hip hop fans shouldn’t sleep on this release from a already impressive collection from these two 585 greats ….
