Yesterday I was complaining to the world of Twitter, that in the last week or two we haven’t had a massive influx of content from our UK and European brethren. I mean, don’t get me wrong I love everything from everywhere regardless of country or language (EVERYTHING IS GOOD), but I do like to hear some homegrown talent. Well, well we were sent a single by American rapper ESH, taken from the album ‘Borderless’ produced and mixed by Spanish DJ, DJ Keal and Hibe. We reviewed the single, and today we’ve been sent the finished article in all its digital glory. A good reminder that when we say UK and/or European artists we’re not just talking about the MCs.
The album itself is a good mix of American and European MCs. As I said in the review of ESH’s track ‘Merica’ yesterday, the instrumentation and production showcases a good balance of traditional and old skool beats, coupled with new and progressive cuts. The soul samples and cuts are definitely appreciated on this, I’ll always be happy to hear DJ’s and producers use them in their records. Never mad.
If you’re a diehard backpacker/boom bap kid, then you’re going to love. Likewise if you’re a fan of roadman rap, and intelligent content then chances are you’ll be a fan too. This isn’t for pop-rap fans though, I can promise you. No bitches, no bling, no top 40 count down, just raw, gritty hip-hop.
