This was sent to us a week or so ago but being there’s only a couple of us running this, sometimes and unfortunately it takes us a little extra time to get them up. Although we always get them up! I was going to write a little jibber jabber about this track, but MC Iris’ friends said it all perfectly. Rest in peace and God bless. It’s a sick track and needs to be spread around.
All Day and All Night is a previously unreleased gem from Brighton based MC Iris. The original track was a never completed collaboration with his good friend and well known UK producer 184 recorded in 20__ . Jake Crockett aka Iris lost his life in a car crash in August 2011 at the tender age of 26. He was a much loved and highly respected person and a talented MC, producer and engineer to boot.
184 came across this track at the end of last year and after playing it to a few people close to Jake felt that it was a great example of the type of music he made. The raps featured on this track are a typical slice of Iris’ no nonsense, heart felt approach to songwriting, dropping defiant and aggressive bars underpinned with a strong sense of self and a positive message.
In addition to the original mix, included here are 2 remixes from veteran UK producers Lewis Parker and Evil Ed. Posthumous releases are a tricky thing to get right, but Jake was a fan of both beat makers, and we’re pretty sure that he would have been pleased with the results. Hopefully this release and the added weight of the production talent involved will serve as a lasting reminder of what Jake was all about as an artist.
Alongside longtime collaborator Mole, he had released 2 well received EP’s – Mole and Iris – An Introduction (2006) and Clouds (2009), and was a permanent fixture at live shows, open mics and battles around Brighton in the early – mid 2000’s. He was also an accomplished producer and engineer. He is much loved and missed by his family and friends.
