You know what we’re missing in hip-hop nowadays? Nah, what we’re reaaaaally missing. Faux English accents!
For those fans of Jeru The Damaja and his crew Perverted Monks then this will come as a treat for you, and for those of you who aren’t fans or aware of him this’ll still come as a treat. It’s a win, win situation really. Already well known, this is Respect’s 9th release not to mention all his various collaboration. Dude keeps himself busy. In between drinking tea, dancing around a park and driving with no hands Respect Tha God manages to throw out a hook laden track with consistent flow, clever content and all around instantly memorable lyrics. A lot people seem to think that you can’t write a fun and funky song without loosing the substance and originality of the art. “Oookay” is a perfect example of why you can, and if done well can become a classic. Yeah that’s right I used that word and without shame. Talking of classic, the beats and production a welcome fresh of breath air. For every badly produced, empty beat there’s DJs and producers like DJ Amor and Sahmim Badie to combat it. It’s well versed and not over-layed to the point of saturation. In my books it’s a tradional sounding production that comes off clean but still retaining the edge that only an underground joint can give you. If you fancy giving it a listen (and a watch) then move your eyes down below to catch the video.
Thanks to Configaration Promotions for sending this one our way, much respect!
This is the first single taken off Respect’s release “Altered States” which features Nine, Smiff N Wessun, Creative Juices, Sammy Bravo, and many more!
