Now because I’m lucky enough to have some kind of platform in order to hop on my little soapbox knowing that at least 3 people are reading this, I’m going to use this opportunity to promote some of my personal favourites. Why? Why not? But I’ve got fantastic taste so it’s okay you’re safe.
Tonight I’m going to point your attention towards my favourite hip-hop group of all time since I was a little shorty wearing oversize t-shirts and swearing at old ladies. Blestenation (pronounced Bless the nation) are 2 MCs and a DJ/producer from New York. They’re a straight up hip-hop group but also merge other genres with their sound to create some of the best songs my little ears have ever heard. The lyrical content ranges from the super bizarre, to party anthem to introspective and social-political. Most topics covered. They’re not gangstas, they’re straight-up hip-hop kids, and I once read a bio that said “With so many drug dealers getting a chance to tell their story in hip-hop, don’t you think it’s time to hear what their customers have to say?”
I’m a bit of a fangirl so in my eyes these guys can do no wrong but I guarantee you won’t be disappointed. Look out for a review of their 2010 release “MBugout City” in the coming days from this very same site. Also, for those that do know Blestenation if you’ve got “Zombie Slave County” and “The Countdown” I’m missing those releases from my collection after loosing all my music files a year back.
Enjoy!
